I understand that BB is king for the conference. But football is gold. The AQ status brings in more cash than BB for most schools. Sure St. John's and Georgetown don't care about cash, but WVU, Rutgers and USF do. And UConn is learning that football cash ain't so bad either.

I know there are posters on here that are saying we are a "done deal" to the Big East, but I think we have quite a few things working against us. I'll still be surprised if it actually happens.

I don't typically find major fault in Katz' work, but he does himself a giant journalistic disservice by flat-out ignoring the giant elephant in the room in regards to Memphis: all of the greatness of the past decade is attributable to John Calipari. 2012 Derrick Rose/Tyreke Evans is not going to Memphis, he is going to Kentucky. They do have an amazingly passionate fan base, but with Josh Pastner, or whoever follows as their coach, they will be a 8-12 seed/NIT caliber team year in and year out. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of, but not worthy of a basketball-fueled conference ascension, and not out of the future realm of possibility for SMU hoops.

I'm just saying lets not say "done deal". I have no doubt that we are well down that path but nothing is a done deal until the PC where Orsini and Turner announce we are headed to the BE. Anything can happen b/w now and then.

I agree w/ you arekp01. Everyone wants to shout for Memphis but fails to acknowledge that they acheived their success w/ the scum of the Earth coaching the team.

Jewish. Katz's deli in Austin was great until it closed this year.
It was the best place to get a corned beef sandwhich and matzo ball soup at 3:00 am. I think Mark Katz's son, Barry, is still running a deli by the same name on Westheimer in Houston.

Memphis is the anti-Boise St.
BE does not want or need an FBS bottom feeder.

There is an express in The Woodlands.

Feel free to calibrate your own expectations, not ours.

Our AD and Prez are going to meet with the Big East officials...pretty close to a done deal.

SMT you need drugs and lots of them. Or maybe I need drugs and lots of them to get through your violent swings in moods.
We are not in, till we are in. I get it. But to say you'll be surprised if it actually happens? Really? It went from we are good to we are screwed pretty quick then. I just posted this elsewhere. The worse case scenario for us is the BE folds completely. At that time we either form a new conference with the best from MWC/CUSA/BE leftovers or they all merge together. That's it. BE re-branded as Big ______. The BE isn't going away in the foreseeable future because they hold their AQ status for a couple more years no matter what. So all of the sudden they aren't going to take us? Really? Louisville jumps, WV jumps and we are still left out. Give me a break. Stay off the boards till you get some help.
