because we shouldn't even think about competing with TCU anymore or having the audacity to think we could beat out the U of Louisville for anything? Wait, but at the same time we are hoping to keep Louisville in the Big East and win championships? See the contradiction? Just take their Big 12 spot now and cut to the chase and ultimate goal. You know the ultimate goal is not Big East, if there even is a Big East.

in the great tradition of back door SMU fans-satisfied to be the Big East victim in the Orange Bowl than the USC of the Midlands

Why would any of the Big 12 schools, and they all do have some input, want SMU when they already have TCU? I just do not see what we could bring to the table. We would be a much more viable candidate for the Big 10 or PAC 12.

because the best alternative after BYU is apparently Louisville. Not much of a value add to the Big 12. What do we give the North schools? Well, they will play 3 crossover games with the South every year if they go to divisions. Would they rather play in Texas twice in some years like they do now every year and have a real presence, or would they rather play the U of L in northern Kentucky? I don't know. Other than that, sometimes it comes down to politics and who gets it done in the backrooms and boardrooms. Are we backing down to big bad Louisville before the announcment is even made?
