I'm talking about the fact that Kate being a Midwesterner has zero to do with her reporting ability. She could be from Miami or Seattle or anywhere in between, and either she can report or she can't. She's an outstanding reporter, and to suggest otherwise because of where she's from is idiotic.

You'd be hard pressed to find many non-alum texans who know anything about SMU.

No you wrote about the Texan players and coaches
Did I? Let's review:
There have been some on here who have said SMU needs to recruit more Texan players. To do so, some have said, the school needs to hire coaches from Texas (because apparently only coaches from Texas can recruit Texan players, and because apparently there are no good players outside of Texas. Those ideas, in my opinion, are idiotic. Of course there are good players outside of Texas, and of course there are coaches from outside the borders of Texas who can recruit (see Adrian Klemm, Jeff Reinebold, etc.)
What I said was that your assertion that whether or not a reporter, whose job includes the reporting of facts and sharing of opinions in blogs and columns, is from Texas is 100 percent irrelevant. Where that reporter was born, went to school or worked first as a professional journalist is meaningless.

True. Besides, there is nothing wrong with reporting by a non-Texan. Someone who grew up watching Doak Walker or Mike Ford or Eric Dickerson could, theoretically, have preconceived opinions that could shade his or her opinions about what she sees. Part of what makes Kate so good as that she is objective and fair. When the team gets beaten, she calls it like she sees it. When the team wins, she gives credit where it's due. She and Calvin Watkins (who ... GASP! ... also isn't a Texan) are the two best reporters who have covered SMU for the Dallas Morning News in decades.

Being a homer is not her job. If that's what you want to read, check out the press releases on smumustangs.com. That's the PR arm of the athletic department, and should provide exactly what you're looking for.
So what if IU is a basketball school? (I assume that's where she went?) She didn't play basketball ... she got a journalism degree. If she were reporting on the weather, instead of sports, should she not apply for jobs in San Diego and Florida because Indiana is a dreary, cold-weather school so she's not qualified to comment on sunshine and warm weather? That's the thing about being a reporter: you are given an assignment, and then you go observe and ask questions and find out what's going on and write about it.
She also covers Olympic sports for the DMN. Is she unqualified for that because Indiana isn't known as a diving school or a gymnastics school or a speed skating school? Of course not. She does a damn good job on that stuff, too.

So in the 24 hours the new guy has been here he's demanding Leach as HC and says Kate's a bad reporter b/c she's not from here and didn't graduate from SMU.
Wonderful insight.

I said it before, he recently took over 1st place as dumbest poster on the boards. that was before i saw this beauty of a comment. At this point, his comments are so dumb and so outrageous, I can't tell if he is serious or just trying to get a rise out of people

I like Kate, but sometimes she ignores my tweets to her regarding some points. No worries I didnt take it personally, I'm just curious about Garrett Gilbert situation since we desperately need a QB. However no offense to her, I personally hate DMN and channel 8. DMN = bevo corporation. Channel 8 = destructors of dynasties (Personal agenda to go after SMU in 80s rather than all the other schools and going after Carroll HS). We need a media outlet that focuses on Dallas, professional sports and its only college football school SMU not Big 12. Fort worth did well to cover its school. TCU also has its own radio station. We have only gametime coverage on 1310 but they wont mention a word about it later. We need an actual all the time or most of the time radio. These are simple branding methods that SMU needs to implement. Also we need to have store carry SMU stuff. Bookstore and the store across 75 does not count as complete coverage.

What are BanjoBongo's five quick hits? Compare those insights to Kate's, since he's been "invested since the DP" and she hasn't.

BanjoBongo wrote:You said it exactly she gets an assignment and reports, she has nothing connecting her life to SMU before moving to Dallas. I want someone that has been through it all Death Penatly til now. I want an SMU grad who really has a vested interest in the program.
So you want a publicist, not a reporter. You're not going to get that at the DMN or any other media outlet that employs legitimate reporters.
