They'll probably add another Texas team. I actually think I am serious.

Don't need Memphis for Bowl tie inns. Bowls desperately need teams to go to them not the other way around. The sham is assuming all teams make money going to bowls. Even if Memphis came with the Liberty Bowl tie in (Stadium is owned by the City), wouldn't be worth carrying that the drain of a football team they seem content to produce. BB only unless they drastically build up their FB program. Perhaps being left in the depleted CUSA will help their alumni realize if they want to be in a serious conference they need to get FB up to speed.

UTSA? Growing metroplex and single team town. Current HC won a BCS Championship for the BE in 2001.

Is there any good speculation on what's gonna have to happen to pull in BYU? They're great at keeping their cards close to the vest.

Call me crazy, but I want to see Texas State rise a bit... I think they might be attractive, too. Did they begin in the FBS this year?

Either way, UTSA or Texas State - both in spitting distance from Austin - will be a nice counterbalance to Bevo.

That gives you footing in the Dallas market, the Houston market, and a toe in the ever-growing Austin and/or SA market.

I think the San Antonio school will be making big headway in the next few years. Great area, large population. Could be a good catch for some like CUSA if they choose to add more at this time.

Thad. When you coming over for tea? (I am on quick reply or I would put a smiley face here)

Threw out UTSA as a joke.

Both are UTSA and TX State are FCS independents this year and moving to the WAC (FBS) next season. This was UTSA's first season ever (Coached by Lary Coker), first practice was August 2010 and did not play that year. So far they have been able to capitalize on being new and a lack of an NBA season (Spurs) to gain attendance (better attendance than SMU and they play unrecognizable teams). But novelty will probably wear off quickly unless they are able to rack up wins in the WAC which will be hard given they have only had two signing classes so far. Both UTSA and TxState have 30k+ in enrollment but as we see with UNT that does not necessarily translate into attendance at games and lifetime fans. My guess is TxSt will just become another UNT (as it is close to being one already), and UTSA is the one that has a chance to grow out of the two, but even so it will take a long time and a lot of outstanding seasons and growth for them to be attractive to a serious conference. Both schools also have relatively small endowments and low academic reputations (UTSA is pushing to be Tier1, but so is UH and a bunch of other state schools).

WAC had to add to survive, if they had not offered when they did, they would have not be able to offer after MW departures (need 6 schools to be able to offer FCS schools) spelling an end of the WAC and its 5 leftover members. C

Can we get UTSA to CUSA as one last blackball to UNT?
