He was on the Bishop Lynch TAPPS 5A State Championship Basketball Team, How about him playing TE. Has good hands.

Tight end sounds like a perfect spot for him. That link you posted has a picture, and he looks a little lanky - maybe they can bulk him up without him losing any speed. Very athletic, good hands, nice speed. With Hampton and Ford graduating, and with Hrncir being a senior next year, we'll need a couple of tight ends in this class.

Keep an eye on Carter HS tight end Paschal Smith (6-4, 245, 4.

. He's big, very strong and very fast. Most magazines I've read have him listed as one of the top 5 tight ends in Texas. I hear he really enjoyed his visit to SMU, and although he's being heavily recruited by some of the big schools, he's very close with SMU freshman Anthony Barnett and SMU commit Desmond Jones. He very well could end up at SMU. They also have an offensive lineman, Chris Evans (6-4, 330, 5.7) who has taken an interest in the Ponies. More size for the offensive line?

If Phillip's can not be moved to TE, then maybe one of the other QB's could be encouraged to move positions. Phillips really wants to be a QB. Don't want to scare him off.

It would be a great start on Coach Bennett's plan to get local guys to stay home if we can get those two Carter guys to sign with the Ponies!

Phillips only completed 6 passes Friday night. But he only threw 7. And three of those completions went for touchdowns as Bishop Lynch clobbered Gainesville State School, 52-0.
Phillips and Bishop Lynch will be on campus to play TCA in Ford Stadium at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 9.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
Chris is a great talent. I know for a fact that Coach Bennett has been high on this guy for a long time. I've seen him play at Bishop Lynch, and I can't wait to see him play for the Ponies.

"Texas QB makes pick
By: Jeremy Crabtree
Date: November 6, 2002
On of the state of Texas’ fastest rising quarterbacks is heading to one of the fastest rising programs. So where did Dallas Bishop Lynch quarterback Chris Phillips commit to?
"I committed to SMU yesterday," Phillips said.
"It’s a program on the rise and they basically run an offense that’s a lot like what we do."
Phillips, a three-star prospect, is ranked as the No. 26 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.
He is also ranked as the No. 14 quarterback in the Midlands.
Phillips, who is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, also had scholarship offers from Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, Iowa State and Wyoming.
He was also getting interest from Kansas State and Ohio State."

That's a great report - sounds like we have two excellent QBs coming in!
By the way, I found a website that called Richuel Massey the No. 1 running back in the entire state of Texas, and "an avid powerlifter who has great work habits."
The same site also said that Killeen (Harker Heights) offensive lineman Devorias Jackson (6'4", 330, 5.2) has SMU in his final four: Oklahoma, SMU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. There are questions about his grades, but nothing's for sure yet. `

FORT WORTH--Chris Phillips ran for two long touchdowns and amassed 220 yards of total offense in the first half, as Bishop Lynch (9-1,3-0) drubbed Fort Worth Nolan 35-7. On the second play from scrimmage, Phillips kept the ball on an option run and darted 67 yards untouched to the end zone.By stacking as many as nine guys up front, Nolan's defense contained Lynch's elusive tailback Corey Jordan. The 5-10 senior entered last night's game with 1,026 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. But on the first play of the second quarter, Nolan was again victimized by Phillips, Lynch's talented senior quarterback.Taking the ball from the shotgun, Phillips faked a handoff to Jordan, shifted his feet and dashed 80 yards through an empty secondary for the score.

Can he suit up against UTEP and Tulsa?
He sounds almost too good to be true.

anyone else find it interesting that Phillips doesn't even make the DMN's list of the Top 100 Area Recruits? I assume those rankings were based on expectations coming into this year, and that Phillips has shown dramatic improvement as a senior to garner the attention and offers that he has. Let's hope he continues to improve and can come in here and bring some healthy competition to the QB position.
Let's hope we have a whole bunch of players on our current roster who make that same kind of improvement over their careers here. Many of our current guys had very few options before deciding on SMU, but we've had several players who have worked hard and developed into the kind of players who could have earned playing time at lots of schools that passed them over coming out of H.S.

That IS weird, Charleston - he's the #26 dual threat QB in the nation and not ranked in the area? Very bizarre.
And I've never seen the kid play, but he must have been good last year - the coaches liked him when he was a junior, unless they just saw him and liked his physical attributes. Either way, he's been terrific this year, according to the paper every Saturday.

OK, now I've seen him. I thought he looked great. Like someone said on the football board, he wasn't asked to throw a lot. But his mechanics looked very solid, and he seemed to have good instincts, and he seemed very intent on winning. He wasn't out there playing to look good, or to make bad decisions in order to boost his stats. This guy looks like a real competitor, and he looks like he's ready to come play at SMU. Maybe he won't get on the field right away, of course, but he's got a good foundation and technique on which the SMU coaches can build.
And oh, that running ability!
