Re: Positions that SMU will be BCS ready come 2013 for the B
In my opinion, the biggest difference between the AQ and non AQ schools is the big guys in the trenches. Klemm has done a good job of getting the 6'4"-6'6" OL coming in. Lets hope they are tough and can handle themselves well in a game. My biggest concern will be getting the big bodies needed on the DL to occupy lineman for our backers to make plays. I would love to have a huge solid DT commit that other teams were coveting. Also it seems that all of our recent DE prospects have been tweeners.

Went back and looked at Hawaii recruits ratings via scout and the caliber we have been able to recruit recently. For what stars are worth. leaps and bounds in recruiting these past 4 years for SMU and 2011&12 are way better than what June was ever able to do at Hawaii.
This year we are currently #1 in CUSA ahead of USM. Just the need the momentum of moving to the Big East to help push 2013 class to the top of the Big East. Currently ahead of us (#48) in the New Big East for the class of 2012 are: Rutgers #39, Cinci #41, USF #44, and Loui #47. They are closely bunched together and even the best team is not that far ahead of us. We could have the #1 recruiting class of the New Big East in 2013. Landing Printz early should help grab recruits attention and push us in that direction.

And Rivals does not list Lincoln Richards yet, has Prescott Line at 2* and has no star rating for Kache Palacio who Scout lists as a 3*.MustangSTATS wrote:Went back and looked at Hawaii recruits ratings via scout and the caliber we have been able to recruit recently. Scout has SMU at #38
The only one of the "new" BE teams ahead of us is Cincinnati at #21

By the way, adding in Lincoln Richard, bumping Line up to 3* and making Palacio a 3* would only bump us to 46. Now if Palacio was slotted in the top 30 strong side defensive ends and Lewis was bumped up to 4 stars, then we are all the way up to 39.The PonyGrad wrote:And Rivals does not list Lincoln Richards yet, has Prescott Line at 2* and has no star rating for Kache Palacio who Scout lists as a 3*.MustangSTATS wrote:Went back and looked at Hawaii recruits ratings via scout and the caliber we have been able to recruit recently. Line has already been bumped once from 5.2 to 5.4 2*. It will be interesting to see if the huge numbers and potential tag of Mr. Michigan football will get him to 3*

SIZE is biggest gap we need to close, especially on the DL (coupled with a sack machine or 2 along with some ball hawk secondary recruits although I see some good ones coming in - the 6'5" guy?, the Nebraska transfer? and the other guy we just picked up that Reinebold was raving about a few weeks back?).
OL is coming along, LOVE the "skill position" recruits (if they stick), but DL really needs to improve. I think we're getting some good LBs (Sanders, Moreland if he ever gets here plus I like the looks of the Khalil kid).
Defense needs to be the focus the remainder of 2012 and 2013 especially some big body motors on the DL (anybody know if the Law kid from USM has a younger brother or 3 just like him?

You don't like the size on our DL right now?

Now just put up the D-line from PB years for good comparison. Recall playing tech and looking like we had HS players out there in comparison to one of the largest lines in FB.

I thought this was a post about recruiting. Yes, our current Dline is pretty good but I'm saying we need to recruit MORE ... what's in the pipeline? Weakest FUTURE spot so far from what I see recruiting-wise.

Agreed that particularly DT is the greatest opportunity, however it may be the toughest spot for any college to recruit as size & agility are at a premium. The DE spots seem to be well represented so DT is the key. Over the past few years, the SMU Defensive Line has grown to be BCS size but I agree that depth is now the key success factor.

June Jones makes us Big East ready and his last two years of recruits and continuing great recruiting.
Biggest winner going to BE is the basketball program.
Now lets beat Navy.

our basketball team and winner don't usually exist in the same sentence. i'll believe it when I see it. don't follow basketball closely, but i swear i've now heard of how many of these "incredible recruiting classes"?
