Our game is better suited for that conference, the recruiting is better, the weather is better!, we could play in the Rose Bowl and I could get to more games.
I assume you have a credible plan for making this happen
SMU 86 wrote:Even if something were to happen with AQ status in the Big East the money we will be getting from the Big East is so much more than CUSA we should stay in the Big East regardless.
Plus, it increases our competition level to allow others to say "hey, they beat USF who beat Clemson (for example), and they beat Boise St. who beat Georgia (for example). SMU deserves its ranking of Top 10." As opposed to going undefeated 3 years in a row in C-USA and only sniffing the top 5. We have to make a move to the Big East if we get the chance and so does all of the other schools.
F*** Chuck Neinas for trying to put a monkey wrench in things. I'd like to kick that guy's @ss.

I couldnt agree more, how was he allowed to take that position with such a conflict of interest. I mean as long as he is head of Big 12, we will never be invited, because he will be frowned upon our proclamation to get out of the inferior cusa and also taking shots for Missouri leaving. Seriously if he gets hit by a car and left out in the road, im walking.
SMU_Alumni11 I have mixed feelings about SMU joining the Big East. I am happy President Turner, Steve O and JJ are starting to see the fruits of their labor. Going from a joke of a football program to getting an invite to join an BCS conference in four years is nothing short of a miracle. I and probably most others on this board never would have imagine this happening in such a short period of time. Now with Pitt, Syracuse and WVU leaving along with UConn and Rutgers making it no secret they want in the ACC and out of the Big East what are you left with? Cincy, UL, oh these two want out also, so you are left with USF as the only remaing team that has not made any noise about leaving the BE. I would call that just a little unstable, the BE makes the Big 12 look rock solid. Will the Big 12 go after UL and Cincy after next year, maybe. I don't think it will happen but I never thought the Big 12 would invite WVU. With Cincy and UL and I think the new BE is a good football league without them the BE is a step or two above the MWC. I am not saying those two schools are football powers but Cincy will probably win the BE and be a top 15 team by the end of the year plus they seems to have a pretty good recruiting class lined up for 2012. Having said this, I think the new BE could rival the ACC football wise top to bottom when it forms in a couple of years assuming no other schools leave. Another concern, I have not heard much out of the BE basketball schools on all of this conference shuffling that makes me nervous. I could see them leaving the BE and forming a new BBall only conference. Those schools do not have anything to gain with the BE expansion, they do not recruit out west and they really have no need to. Plus the two teams in my opinion that were the bridge between football schools and Bball schools were Syracuse and Pitt now they are gone. Sorry if my thoughts appear to jump around quite a bit. I am cautiously excited....
If this is the new BCS plan, then we have to be in the Big East more than ever. Quality opponents and national visibility will be even more necessary if there's no guaranteed spots. BE > CUSA
For now, BE monies would increase our athletics revenues humongously. Also, I have heard some rumblings that UT is basically demanding that new adds to the Big XII like TCU and WVU get a smaller share of the pie than schools like TT. In all liklihood our revenues from the BE will equal or exceed TCU's revenues from the Big XII. Why? NYC baby!

If true would be great to know we make more than TCU even though they are in the Big12. Would also help stabilize the BE because it would decrease the incentive for teams to try and leave for the Big12.
this suggestion will create hostility within the cartel; can you imagine under the present system where only 10 teams get the big $$ games....if as many as 4-5 schools from one conference took the majoriy of those spots?

I'm afraid you don't understand the dire position we are in as a conference. The Big East schools make horrible money compared to the other conferences. I posted a link here a couple weeks ago, but the numbers are not even close to the SEC/BigXII/PacXII/BIG/ACC I have heard from contacts in the Big East office that we are extremely worried about the re-negotiations for the new contracts due to all the moving pieces in realignment.
I think the best hope we have is to sign a short term deal (5 years)with all the new teams coming on board and pray our football games garner high tv ratings with all the new teams and allow us to get a very nice long term deal after that.

Can you go back to your contacts in the Big East office and ask them what the f*** is taking so goddam long to make things official re: new invites? Please report your findings. Thanks.

I like the fantasy of heading west but I can't image that SMU would be in anyone's thoughts for the Pac10+2, even if they expand to 16. Lots of teams in line before us unless we dominate the BE in the very near future.
