I was in the camp for giving Bennett a 6th year to prove himself and think that JJ deserves the opportunity to prove himself with a talented squad. After all, talent-wise this should be our firs season of bowl eligibility. I have had to temper my expectations as much as anyone especially after the TCU game.
I hear what you are saying but we lost to 2 lesser talented teams in Navy and Tulsa (I don't think Tulsa has the talent we do from top to bottom IMO). Just saying.
I am not an expert, but I think that Tulsa has more talent in key positions (i.e. QB.) that make a big difference between winning and losing. Like I said, today's game is the first one where I am really upset that we lost.

Patience maybe but not blindness.

We are not ahead of schedule. That is a load of crap.
If anything, our anemic QB play is beginning to hold us back.
At some point it is OK to have expectations bigger than not losing every game in a season.

We have only one significant problem. No reliable QB play. Otherwise we win today. Jones and company had us in position to win. We just had to execute. We didn't. Just like USM and even Tulsa.
You can moan and complain about 2 million a year for JJ. I put the three losses this year (outside of A&M who were simply too athletic for us) on the kids.

The staff has just as much blame to share IMO.

Jones is responsible for recruiting and developing QBs, he has clearly failed in that regard. It's his fault that scrubs are all we've fielded at QB during his tenure.

This is pure BS...run a spread offense that your local 8th grade team runs, we blow them out with our superior size and athletes...the problem is not the QB, or the wind...it is on this crappy, slow, predictable offense....
Just accept it, and do something about it...Don't be a sheep.

Yeah, we only have 1 position that's killing us, if you don't count poor offensive line play, poor defensive line play, poor linebacker play up the middle and defending the option. But you are right, if we could find a QB we'd be playing in a BCS bowl. Please.

This loss is on the players. June Jones didn't lose discipline on assignments on defense (that was Richard Crawford and quite a few others ... Stephon Sanders gets a little bit of a pass being a freshman, hopefully he learns from it, but he blew several assignments as well). June Jones didn't blow a touchdown pass to Cole Beasley, 2 terrible interceptions, and an open streaking DJ. Having said that, I WOULD like to see these coaches challenge these players and show a little more competition/fire on the sideline. Ultimately, though, this comes down to talent. Talent wins most of the time, let's face it, on this level. Navy is very disciplined. They are not more athletic but we have a bunch of 2 and 3 stars (mostly 2s starting) who think they are 4 and 5 star type talents and they aren't (one reason a guy is a 3 or 4 star is because they are talented but also because they are VERY VERY competitive - many guys on this team just aren't ... why they are 2 stars or NO stars). Now, at this level, coaching is huge and motivating TALENT to kick [deleted] is a big part of it but you can't yell and scream at mediocre talent and expect them to all of a sudden become rock stars (talent also means mental toughness).
I will be happy when this Oline graduates and we can play more TALENT on the line. I expected this loss - we will end 6-6 and be very fortunate to play in a bowl. Next year won't be much better but I expect things to REALLY pick up in 2013. Then one more year of June Jones and we hire a "firey" type coach who can push the 4 star talent that JJ recruited to rise up and build some momentum.
The loss sucks. We are all very emotional right now (I don't how many times I threw something at my TV) but, let's face it, these guys are average talents with a few studs thrown in but they are very much the exception.
It WILL get better.
Go 'Stangs!!

If our QB play was more consistent. We would have won today, we would have won in USM and we would have had a shot in Tulsa. All the things you list are problems. but they are not as significant. Our D did enough today to put our offense in a position to win. Our offense didn't win.

Abu: you sir, are freaking on drugs.....qb play alone would not have covered up the overall poor play of the team in the USM, Tulsa, and Navy games. I'm not a McD fan, I'd rather have Kp, however, all the fans who believed Jones' coach-speak should wake up. We are an good C-USA team for many reasons, Qb play is one, but we do not have a back that can score from anywhere on the field, our OL is average at best. Our tackles suck against athletic rushers -- fat and slow are not good combinations at tackle. Our receivers drop too many balls, run the wrong routes, don't get out of bounds when they should preserve time outs and precious little time (can't begin to tell you how many times AR dud that). Our defense can
t stop a hurry up offense, for that matter, nor a service academy rushing game. Our kicking game is below average....seriously, put an ad in the paper for a kicker? Our linebackers put themselves in "no-man's land" against the option over and over. Our D-line rarely pressures the opposition QB, unless we play friggin Memphis, UTEP, NW ST, Tulane........we have lost the turnover contest 2 consecutive yearsnow. Last year it wasn't even close (and not because of an exaggerated offensive turnover machine. On the contrary, Kp threw 14 INT's in 14 games....good numbers. Think Phillip Rivers from the Chargers wishes he had that ratio? Our defense doen't get take-aways. We got a couple tonight, however, check the season stats.....not good. And this is with a much weaker schedule this year than last. Every team is worse than last year's team except Houston, and they beat us. I'll give you that USM is better than ECU as well. Coach speak hyped up this season. We are ahead of schedule according to Jones. Of course, he's going to say that. he gets paid to win. I'm here to tell you this team is just like 2009 and 2010. They can beat most C-USA teams, but will lose some surprises as well. A loss next weak puts them at 6-5. IF we beat Rice, big IF, we finish 7-5. Guess what, 2009 we were 7-5. 2010 we were 7-5. 2011....probably 7-5. Only difference? We played for a championship in 2010.

June Jones put those kids on the field and left them there when they missed assignments and were undisciplined. June jones told us we should be competing for a conference championship. He bears the blame flute bringing these kids here and for setting the expectations. He also bears the blame flite giving up by not trying an inside kick with three minutes left in the game after watching our defense fail to stop navy quickly all night

And there in lies the problem..you put all those losses on one person...BS!...we had superior size and talent, if we ran a more balanced offense and took some pressure off the QB, we would have won with the trainer at QB...
Problem is, this crappy offense that is slow, outdated, and puts pressure on the QB...Yeah, maybe this would work if we had Dan Marino or John Elway back there....but we don't...and June is too arogant to admit it.

abezontar, what other players would you have proposed he played?
we beat the teams we've had more talent than (NW State, Tulane, Memphis, and UTEP). The ONLY team we beat that was more talented was TCU ... the rest we lost to had more talent ... definitely aTm and USM ... Tulsa is very similar at this point). Navy is debatable but - again - that goes back to my point that these mostly 2 stars and no stars thinking they are better and over-estimating themselves and getting beat by hungrier and more disciplined players when the talent level was similar.
this has VERY little to do with a system or a coach. on this level, talent usually wins out. we are not that talented yet ... but we ARE getting there (MUCH more talented than 2-3 years ago that's for sure when Navy beat us by even more than they did today). We are closing the gap in CUSA, which is why I want us to stay in CUSA for 2-3 more years we can most likely win it all each year THEN get into a BCS conference with multiple 4 stars and possibly even a 5 star.
But what do I know ... armchair quarterbacking.
