One question...
Why didn't the safeties move up? They line up at least 10 yards every play but three. At least bring the weak side safety up.
(unbelievable)

We held Navy below their average points and yardage...You hold Navy to 24...you should blow them out....
If it makes you feel better, blame this on the safties not being up....why not put the blame where it really falls, right at the foot of June and that crappy, slow offense that an undersized, horrible defense could stop with ease. A defense that no other decent team had a problem with.
Explain that...

Don't get me wrong. I thought the D played well enough to win. Doesn't excuse a basic rule against the triple option.. Kill the QB and bring the safety up.

I hear ya..but we held them under their season average of points and yards...should be a win against a 3-6 team...I gotta put that mostly on the offense...

Well, Notre Dame held Navy to 14 and Rutgers held them to 20. I'm not putting this loss squarely on the D by any means. But when you couple an anemic offense and a terrible, slow, inaccurate, lumbering QB with an unprepared defense, you get a LOSS to Navy. Even the game announcers were commenting about the D looking lost and being frustrated by their inability to stop the triple option. They drained the clock on us all game b/c we could not stop them and then we laid eggs on offense.

The worst part is preparing for a D once a year. Hopefully move to BE and playing them and A/F makes it worth it.

I absolutely hate watching the triple option in football. It has to be the most annoying offense ever. It's effective at times, especially against us, but man it's painful.
But what's irritating is watching defenders sit back waiting to see what the QB is going to do. Is he going to run with it, or pitch it. Well, what you need to do to defend it is tackle the man with the ball. If he pitches it, at least now you have taken away his threat to run, and the guys behind you can now concentrate on ONE guy and not two. Saw several plays where we didn't attack the play like this, and got burned by our indecisiveness.

that was my reaction watching this one on TV...they made us look soft

Kate at DMN 11/8:"Nothing's changed -- defensive coordinator Tom Mason's favorite week is still clearly not this one, when the Mustangs must implement a unique scheme to stop the Midshipmen's triple-option. Navy is averaging 318-yards rushing per game, third-best in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
"You spend the whole week doing something you haven't done all year," Mason said. "The kids have to understand this is gonna be physical, they're going to cut you all over the field and you have to be assignment-perfect."
My opinion-These buttholes have beat us 5 straight times-why don't the coaches man up and stop complaining about the "once all year" motivation killer? Ooh! we might get cut. Ooh they are badasses and physical. No wonder the players approach this game without enthusiasm. How about let's get p***d off Navy kicks our asses everytime we play them even though we have more talent? Just because they are a service academy let's lay down and enjoy getting raped? Stop all the congratulating them and focus on winning.
I remember us getting beat up by Tulane after we had housed them and gave them free use of our facilities after Katrina. They didnt show appreciation by giving us a game. Don't get me wrong-I am grateful for our servicemen (and women) but let's approach playing Navy and Army as if they are our enemy and we want to win-not honor their presence in our stadium.
