2011 football after starting 5-1 = 1985 basketball after starting out on fire & including win over UNC. Take a look at what was the downfall in 1985 and there's clues as to what's gone on in 2011

What was the downfall in 85? Forgive me, I was 8 yrs old and busy doing the Superbowl shuffle in Chi-town.

It's true that we probably have a better defense than anything Houston has seen this year, but our defense is pretty bad. They will be able to outpace us in a shootout type of game.

Yes, Tulsa has 2 game lead with tie-breaker.
But we can still be co-champs of our division, right? Just that Tulsa advances to championship game no matter what.
Nope. Even if we both Tulsa and Houston lose this week, one of them will win the following week and have only one loss. We already have two conference losses. Maybe now you understand why so many people are upset with the team's performance the last four weeks.

In point of fact, Houston really hasn't play anyone who was
worth a damn. If SMU could demonstrate that they have any
cojones...they could win that game.

Well, somebody needs to beat them. If you don't you might get to see them get 95 scored on them in a BCS bowl game though (you might like that). I really don't see Houston going out and beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, or I wonder if Lamichael James and Oregon could set a Rose Bowl rushing record against them by the first half?

If focus/motivation is the problem with our current squad, then this game should be a lot closer than most people think. If our problem is lack of talent/depth/QB play, we are in for a long day.

SMU is broken at this point. If the rumors are true about Line being done for for the year, let's get the young guys in there and start playing for 2012.
Who dat, who dat, who says we can't beat Houston??? We lead Tulane 31-0 at halftime, didn't we?? "That's why they play the games!" says Chris Berman.

UH is the class of C-USA right now, but I agree that they haven't faced top-tier competition. I frankly doubt that SMU will beat UH. I'm also not sure whether Tulsa or USM are the teams to take the Cougs down. But if UH runs the table and ends up in a BCS game against, let's say, SEC #2, then I see a repeat of the Georgia/Hawaii Sugar Bowl a few years back.

Yesterday afternoon, ESPN radio picked SMU to "take care of business" this Saturday in Houston. Said that our QB, Kyle McDermott, should rebound this week and find a way to get it done. Go Ponies.

I know that Tulsa will skull f...... them.
Houston hasn't played anyone... yet. But who has Tulsa beat?
SMU is probably their best win.
UCF is 4-6 and TU beat them 24-17 in a 4th quarter come from behind victory. I'm not sure La Tech isn't better than UCF this season. I know UCLA is better.
Common opponents
TulaneUH 73-17
TU 31-3
UNTUH 48-23
TU 41-24
UABUH 56-13
TU 37-20
RiceUH 73-34
TU 38-20
MarshallUH 63-28
TU 59-17
So the only thing I've seen that TU has proven that UH hasn't is that they can get blown out by top teams. 47-14. 59-33. 41-21. Is UH one of those top teams? Are we in between those top teams and the bad common opponents? Would we get blown out by those top teams? Don't know yet, but I know Tulsa isn't one of those top teams.
UH has beaten those bad common opponents worse than TU with the exception of Marshall.

I see where you are coming from but all 5 of those teams are atrocious. Not really a measuring stick. Tulsa is probably a little more prepared due to experience in their first 3 games.
