Rich Rod was to Michigan what June Jones is to us. He didn't embrace Michigan and people were pissed off at him for that.

That's why they cooked up that illegal practicing infraction business to get him out of there.

He won't have that issue at Arizona. They don't have tradition. His type of ball should translate better out West.

I though Mike Leach was a shoe-in at Arizona

Leach won't get a job until he drops his lawsuits.

Rich Rod only sued his school.
Leach sued his school and the tv network who pays the bills at every school he wants a job from.

I hope Rich succeeds at Az. He actually seems like a good enough guy and man can he ever call an offensive game. If Greg Mattison was his DQ at Michigan, he'd probably still be there. He brought us Denard whom I consider the consumate Michigan Man, so not everything he did was bad. Honestly I feel terrible about the whole situation that he walked into at Michigan. There's a book out called 3 and out, written by a Michigan Professor on the subject. I have thus far only read excerpts but the book is on my Christmas list. Pretty revealing, for example Lloyd Carr himself called Rich first to ask him if he wanted the job. Apparently because Lloyd wouldn't have Les Miles in that job over his dead body. The Michigan "men" could have taken him in and coached him up a little about Michigan (which to date has 884 wins). If when asked if a non Michigan man can coach Michigan he would have just said, well you don't have to worry about that, because I'm here to be a Michigan man he would have had a lot less trouble. Fielding Yost was from West Virginia too you know. Bo Schembechler would have been very displeased with how the guy was dragged in there and hung out to dry and the handling of his team. Make no mistake, it was Bo's team until the day he died. Bo would have never let Rich get put in that situation. And if he would have seen all that non Michigan man behavior from his boys, he would have crushed it, point blank.

Except that RichRod was nothing to Michigan was June is to us. June has lifted us from two decades of mediocrity to three straight bowl appearances, we're starting to win a few recruiting battles against big schools and if we win against Rice or in the bowl game, we will have three straight seven-win seasons for the second time in school history. June had a much steeper hill to climb, and needless to say the climb is not yet done, but his impact here has been far more impressive than RichRod's impact at Michigan.

June lifted us from the dregs to mediocrity. We're hoping to take the next step sooner rather than later.

Good luck to Rich Rod. He got a raw deal at Michigan.

thank goodness. i was sick of reading that they were coming after June Jones.

RnB- while I don't respect those who don't honor their contracts it is not uncommon in college FB for coaches to change schools during their existing contract period.
Simple question- if you were a coach where would you rather coach at Mich.- a Big 10 school or at WVA- a BE school? Where do you feel the most opportunity and prestige is?

I'd rather coaches not invent opportunities to get leverage and twist arms.

OSU Losing Monken?

Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy could soon find himself looking for an offensive coordinator for the second straight off-season.

Reports out of New Orleans indicate Cowboys’ O-coordinator Todd Monken is one of two finalists for the Tulane job along with former Miami of Ohio coach Michael Haywood.

Monken returned this season to OSU, where he had coached under Les Miles, to replace Dana Holgorsen, who left for West Virginia after one record-breaking season.

The Pokes' offense has continued to roll under Monken's direction. After OSU's 66-6 win over Texas Tech two weeks ago, Gundy told me Monken is the "best play-caller I've had."

Larry Fedora, now the head coach at Southern Miss, was Gundy's first O-coordinator. Gundy took over play-calling duties when Fedora left, eventually turning the job over to Holgorsen.

Monken and Heywood reportedly emerged as the top two candidates late Monday after former West Virginia and Michigan coach Rich Rodriquez turned down Tulane’s offer, opting instead to replace Mike Stoops at Arizona.

Monken has experience in Louisiana from the years he spent with Miles at LSU before leaving to join the NFL's Jacksonville franchise.

Heywood was briefly the head coach at Pittsburgh late last year. But he was fired after an alleged domestic violence incident and replaced by Tulsa coach Todd Graham.

As of Monday afternoon, Monken was in Stillwater. He attended the memorial service for two OSU women's basketball coaches who died last week in a plane crash.
