Expect the Bruins to seek a big name to replace Neuheisel. "Multiple sources close to the program have said that the school is ready to make a financial commitment to football," writes Jon Gold of the Los Angeles Daily News, "with Boise State head coach Chris Peterson and Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin atop a short list of desired candidates."

If that's true, UCLA is going to have to spend a lot of the money they made in the Pac-12's shiny new TV contract. According to Scott M. Reid of the Orange County Register, coaches like Peterson and June Jones of SMU make more money in their current jobs than Neuheisel made last year.

What I want to know is who in the hell Neuheisels's agent is, he couldn't win at Colorado, Couldn't win at Washington and couldn't win at UCLA.. And he got the Bufs and Huskies jobs when the teams were pretty good and ran them aground. I don't expect much from UCLA and that's exactly what he delivered there too. Neuheisel is a clown and he can't coach.

Amen-

did he have a few good years at washington, and that's why folks keep hiring him, right?

He's always been overrated.

His University of Washington Huskies football team defeated the Purdue University Boilermakers football team 34-24 in the 2001 Rose Bowl!

When was the last time your Michigan team won the Rose Bowl?

Oh yeah the last time you won an NC - 1998.

I don't deny that Michigan is NOT what they have been in the past. hmm, maybe i should have picked a different name Michigan has an awful lot of haters out there. Seeing as how you are a players Dad you probably played for USC, and maybe also beat UM in the Rose Bowl... Warm weather games and January don't seem to mix well with Ann Arbor kids, especially when it's a home game in Pasadena for a Pac 10 team.

I would not be surprised at all if UCLA makes a serious run at JJ and if JJ does bail on SMU, it will not likely have anything to do with his salary. If UCLA will pay JJ what he's earning at SMU and put together a stronger package for his assistants and allow him to bring whoever he wants (as in locking in Klemm to recruit head to head against USC), then all I can say is look out SMU. If JJ leaves SMU, my guess is that it will have a lot to do with the fact we haven't been able to generate much additional interest in this program (attendance wise) despite going to 3 consecutive bowl games

those who want JJ out might get their wish

Good luck, because no way ucla allows assistant coaches not to recruit, change mascots, colors, embrace other schools traditions. And they certainly dont accept 7-5

ya think? UCLA doesn't need to change mascots/traditions because they don't have the problem SMU does in attracting fans. As for the assistants and their roles, I think anyone who lures JJ away will do it by giving him complete control over his staff...and perhaps some money for raises (Klemm in particular)

Klemm got a huge raise last year and is the only guy deserving of one this year. Jj has already asked for raises for all his assts this year.

You are crazy if you think the shti jj gets away with here would fly at ucla

Mason deserves a raise. Not only is he a solid DC, but take a look at the guys he has been responsible for in the 2010 and 2011 classes...I would say his commits from those classes have the most on field production.

Sure, Klemms revruits have been highly rated and have amazingly bright future's (especially the 2012 kids), but in terms of translating to on field production early in their smu careers, masons recruits have been really productive this far.

Tom Mason is a terrific coach who has been able to put together a defensive unit with several quality athletes on it. At last count we will have quite a few guys on defense in the NFL.

Taylor Thompson (Rounds 5-7)
Marquis Frazier (Round 7-UFA)
Ja'Gared Davis (Rounds 3-6)
Taylor Reed (UFA)
Margus Hunt (Rounds 5-7; someone will take a chance on his freakish athleticism)
Chris Banjo (UFA)
Stephon Sanders (way too early to tell but early returns are very good!)

That is more talent on the defensive side of the ball than we have had in 30 years. We also have some real studs coming in next year too.
