I will be upset if June leaves

The people running the show won't be the hc, it will be Paul Lloyd and Gerald ford....

Pretty sure the school will give them what they want

Ford was behind SMU to bcs and that worked...

The complainers sound close to the comments about Coach Fry. Being 7-4 wasn't good enough..remember how that worked out. Look at the roster before Jones, SMU now looks like a D1 program.

Nick....the issue remains...we cant fill the seats! We have had marginal increases in attendance...students still leave at half time, more people on the BLVD than in the stands...if you cant get the fans, I think its going to be hard to get any coach with any skins on the wall here.

June needs at least three more years.

We need a coach that will reach out to the Dallas community and get them to support the team. We have had what we needed to get the restrictions relaxed. Now we need a dynamic coach to sell SMU to Dallas.

There are about 10+ teams (which many believe are better jobs) that need "dynamic coaches". SMU may be lucky to get someone that doesn't drool when he smiles.

Why the negative waves. There is a fit for SMU. Jones was needed because he had the power to demand change. Outside of that he is kind of an [deleted]. We do not need that anymore. There are a lot of good coaches out there that could do very well at SMU. The biggest concern here is if the Orsini rumor is true. If so we have a tough time getting one recruit this year.

Don't show your wisdom here or everyone will know you're not a young whippersnapper!

JJ did fine getting SMU to where we shall hopefully be in an AQ and are back in the national picture.

His whole offensive scheme worked for the type of players he inherited but SMU is recruiting the type of players that can play Big-Boy FB without need to resort to gimmicks.

I would prefer JJ for a couple more years to further stabilize the process but his departure may truly be a blessing.

Time will tell.

nobody on this board's fault...but too bad we don't have more classmates and former classmates who care about SMU athletics.

What exactly has June Jones done to get our students and alumni interested in the program. Did he think all he had to do was show up in Dallas and the area football fans would think he is a god and flock to see him like they did in Hawaii? Yeah winning more games is important and we have done that, but there is more involved than just that. For starters he could be more appreciative of the loyal SMU fans we have. Instead he tries to change our traditions and basically tells us, by his announcements of his disappointment in the crowds, that we are not worthy of the teams respect for showing up and supporting them.

The current Athletic Department is not much better. With all the alternative competing athletic events available in the Dallas area, you aren't going to rise above the competition with out meaningful and long term consistent marketing. My humble 2 cents worth.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Interest has increased since he got here- no question about that. Maybe not at the rate we or JJ would have liked- but just look at attendance since JJ got here - it's increased. Still a ways to go, but alumni and students are more interested now than they were before he came. Question for the mods- has PF.com seen a substanial uptick in traffic since JJ's hiring?

I'm with you on marketing though- it's a sin that there aren't SMU football billboards up and down 75.

I think if JJ, especially SO, and others, it will be a huge blow. At least for the short term, the program, which I imagine it does, needs to have back up plans. We also need a way to make recruits fall in love with SMU and not JJ. JJ cannot blame fan support. Its pathetic to do so, and I get when you are upset you say stupid things, but you never blame the fans. Trust me, once you start getting hostile, nobody will show up. Also he has done little to nothing to inspire people to come. I mean do other HC have to do the marketing side of thing no.. but he is getting paid very kindly for winning games in crap conference.

If we do go after a new coach, we need to get alumni other coaches to stay in contact with recruits. We need to do our best to hold them in place, we need to hire the asst coaches as HC or find an up and coming coach that will do anything. We need a coach thats like Ron Meyer who can market any team hes on.

Unfortunately, when we moved servers a few years back, we lost a lot of our historical data. Probably one of the busiest times was during the wild period immediately proceeding June's hire.

There was actually a story in The Dallas Morning News a few years ago about SMU's growing popularity and PonyFan's numbers (at that time, around 30,000-40,000 unique visitors per month during the season) were cited.

I would say the biggest jump in traffic came at the beginning of Junes' first year, then another huge bump going in to the Hawaii Bowl. Things have sort of leveled off a bit since.

Nice- I guess one way we could measure it would be new memberships on PF created from 2000-08 vs. 2008-present.
