Part of looking in the mirror is recognizing shortcomings and correcting them.

StallionsModelT wrote:As I said, June has done a good job here. We are no longer a doormat. But it wasn't until he came along that SMU became committed to winning. We have the infrastructure and vision in place now. June got us around the corner just like Fran did at TCU. now we need our Patterson to get us to the next level.
I'm ok with this line of thinking as long as we are thankful to the guy who got us here and remember from whence we came.

You don't know what he thinks. Your pride is blinding you.
Just be thankful we had him. Life's too short.

Additionally, repeated cycles of violence and reconciliation can result in the following beliefs and attitudes:[6]
The abused believes that the violence was his or her fault.
The abused has an inability to place the responsibility for the violence elsewhere.
The abused fears for his/her life and/or the lives of his/her children (if present).
The abused has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient.

Then tell him to take his fatass and 1987 offense back to the islands. We will find someone who is more than suitable to replace him.

Ok SMT, please answer me this. You're in JJ shoes. His assistant coaches are grossly underpaid (especially certain ones). He's about to get his pocket picked if he can't get them more money. You ask the school, they say no because they have to fund their new "Human Rights" major (as an example). What do you do to raise the money?
June is doing what we would all do. He's walking into his bosses office with leverage and saying I'll leave unless we can fix X. It's called leverage. It doesn't make him a villain.
Ugh another worthless major. If that were a true situation, JJ should just say give me the entire Human Right budget and remove that program. haha

To say SMU has not done its part is just flat wrong. And I will add in the world of top three or four programs in CUSA, out assistant coaches are overpaid not underpaid. He shook us down already last year and we came through with raises for the staff.
Other areas SMU can do better in - we need to get off our butts and get an IPF. That has to happen regardless. We need to pre-invest some dough in our tutoring department, our recruiting budget and some selective marketing so we can raise our profile locally.
June has done a good job no doubt - and he has changed the culture and expectations around here - not just of our players but our administration, trustees and students.
But June owes us as much as we owe him. A little loyalty for the 10M would be nice.

Good post. And a serious question. How would you like him to express that loyalty? And do you expect more out of him than other college head coaches?
