My thoughts exactly. The lack of energy for that Tulsa game just didn't make sense otherwise. He has to understand that SMU is a SMALL school with a SMALL, yet very enthusiastic, fan base. And it's in DALLAS! A few distractions there. As many have stated here, it's going to take 2-3 seasons of top 25 finishes to really fill Ford consistently.

You can't even have recruits visit a home game without turning them off. Russ Potts' success came before Ron Meyer's success. It is essential that we stop making excuses and have a concrete plan to address this problem. We start out with season attendance 50% below the attendance of the next lowest in the Big East.
Just hire seat fillers until attendance improves - Done Deal!

Orsini:Cited ucf game poor turnout for june's displeasure
This demonstrates that the "walk on's" letter to the editor was a put up job.

I completely agree. Perhaps that's what Orisini is alluding to with some things needed to improve. Could this have all been a ploy by June to get us a marketing budget?!?

The attendance factor is slightly depressing.

we absolutely need to find a way to put butts in seats...whether they are paying customers or not. the sad reality is that we might have trouble getting people to come even if we offered to pay them. It's the final piece of the puzzle to make our programs more competitive. Major challenge when you don't have 40k students and turn out 10k graduates every year

Am I the only one who is outraged by this? How can we possibly move forward with JJ and think that we will do well with recruiting?

The difficulty right now is that the product we are trying to market is one where we are having to sell to the public. Folks don't like to be sold to--they want to purchase. There's a difference. I am not saying that we shouldn't market, we definitely should. We blew the marketing budget in JJ's first year with a terrible product: a 1 win team. That likely reinforced the public's perception about the team, unfortunately.
I am hopeful that we can raise funds for significant marketing, but this is a winner's town and the average member of the public won't attend a game until the product on the field is exciting and we're winning 9 games a year.

Just sit back, raplh and I will take care of this for you. Hope your daughter is enjoying her first year.
Raplh seems to remember you mentioning a dinner at the Navy game last year if we ever came up your way. Maybe we will play at Rutgers.

any current B-school students know whether we are using our students to help? I've suggested this would be a worthy marketing class project...how to build attendance at football/bball games within a limited budget

Orsini wouldn't said academic restrictions not still a problem. Said all schools have challenges. If coaches dont like it, they can leave
