3rd: OPEN THE DAMN WINDOWS. Or, only serve the food before the game and at halftime. Force the blue hairs to sit outside and be relevant to the game.

4th: somehow reward students that go to the game. Coupons for a free pitcher at milos, free burger at twisted root, etc. Hopefully that would result in more students to go.

Will NEVER happen unfortunately

good idea. lots of possibilities here.
They scan the IDs now, they should say whichever fraternity or sorority has the most people scan in, or best ratio to members, whatever, gets money for a party or an extra formal. I don't know, but something along those lines. give the students an incentive.
How about if you scan in to all six home games in a season, you get an extra 50 pony bucks?

That's a good idea. Unfortunately, SMU would be appalled to actually give money to students and not receive money.
As for the parties/formal idea...this would be SMU's nightmare. As a recent grad, I know they are trying to get rid of the greek system in any way they can. I can't remember a semester when we weren't on probation and couldn't have a single formal...all because of stupid reasons. It's unfortunate we have terrorist running and controlling the greek system. They change the "party" rules every year. I heard this year that you couldn't have parties on thursdays anymore. They also require a fraternity to register each party and require that you have buses transporting people even if the party is a block away at Barley or Across the street bar. I just don't see them rewarding fraternities with parties when they are trying to get rid of them in the first place.
I do like the ideas though and wish they could be implemented. Lets make it work Herman.

You can thank our litigious ponyfan attorneys and their ilk for the outrageous cost of insurance and the rules the school must put in place in order to defer liability to the fraternity and the members.

Dont the frats/sorotities compete for overall "points" or something like that? have attendace count towards points. But instead of just scanning in have them scan out as well. that way they arent chking in at the begining and leaving. If you dont scan out you dont count and if you arent there for a predetermined amount of time you dont count either...
Selling booze will never happen, but it is the best way to create a "rowdy" energetic crowd. My buddies and I smuggle in airline bottles to keep the good times rolling!!
And the cops near the student section need to take a hike. I guarantee there is a large amount of students that believe they will be harrassed if they show up.

People love the Roughrider games and its not all for the baseball. The boulevard has been a huge success. The Rice game was flat out BORING.
Actually I thought concessions were pretty good at Rice. I got a bad@ss corndog with a big lemonade form a concession stand on wheels I had never seen there before. Then got Campisis (I think it was Campisis) pizza. Cant complain about that. Also there was a Taco stand I saw.
Worst I have experienced in several years. On east side, only had one concession stand open and they were out of popcorn at halftime.

If this week has taught us anything, it is that we are way way too late in getting our butts in gear and fixing our stadium atmosphere problem. It's got to change, and change isn't going to come from talking about it on Ponyfans. We, the fans that actually do go to games, aren't powerless in this. We just need to band together. Since I've started RBA, I've been able to suggest music that has been played over the speakers during games, started a cross-stadium cheer in coordination with the Mustang11 and Cheer squad, carved out a little section of Ford Stadium that is loud and looks decent on TV...and these were initiated by a fairly small group. We are at 100 members now and with additional one, our demands can get bigger. Help us change the atmosphere in Ford Stadium.

Shutting down the Boulevard before kickoff is going to be necessary...it will [deleted] people off initially, but most of the people it will anger are part of the problem anyway (showing up to tailgate and then leaving). They'll get mad, protest, and then either get over it or stop coming out...either way it will have no impact on the game. I really see no downside to shutting down the tailgating a few minutes before the game as it relates to attendance.
Second, get some halftime entertainment that will appeal to the masses - bring in a major musical act or something...give the Dallas area non-fan a reason to come out to the game.
Third, market the hell out of the game via not only social media but television, internet banner ads (notice how we occasionally see TCU ones on our site), billboards (10+ all over DFW), radio (not just the sports stations...get ads on K104, The Edge, KZPS, etc), and random events/giveaways on campus that will appeal to the masses. We need to make people in Dallas feel COMFORTABLE on campus and they'll be much, much more likely to come out to the games. Many people outside the SMU community are very apprehensive to come into the "rich" part of town for one reason or another....we need to get past that.
Finally, create some value in the ticket...sorry, but I don't believe that giving them away or selling them at deep discounts to youth leagues is helping...if anything, it's actually destroying the value. I think we should RAISE ticket prices to $20 at a minimum, and going much higher. We need to let people know that if they get ahold of a ticket they should USE it, not feel like it's a throwaway. Again, it may turn some people off initially, but those people are probably not the fans that are showing up and staying through the game anyway...they're the ones showing up with their 5 kids and then leaving mid-2nd quarter.
Also...let's ditch the "mini-mustangs" and other high school-like things that we do during the game...we're a D-IA AQ school. Time to act like it.
I KNOW we can get better, and there are a lot of things we can do that we've just never done before...some will be painful or awkward at first, but they are necessary. Get people to see SMU as a school that's serious about its gameday experience and they'll come.
Basketball....that one needs even more help and I can't even begin to say what we need to do there.
