Anybody notice that Gus Malzahn's off to Arky State?

Dude turned down $3M/year at Vandy to go to A-State. Interesting, even if he is from there.

Is that official. I heard the sports guys talking about it tonight. He is getting $800,000. I think he wants to get his feet wet as a head coach before stepping into the big time.

Chances of having a winning record are greater at Arky St. Maybe he didn't want to be out of coaching in 3 years.

I agree. He should do great there then move to a big time program. Maybe somewhere like Tennessee, which could be open soon the way things are going.

Why Porter? Memphis sucks and hasn't been getting good recruits either.

The biggest thing we lose with Klemm's departure is recruiting, particularly the California pipeline. An O line coach isn't hard to find, but a top notch recruiter is.

Porter is a two time recruiter of the year.

Don't question him turning down Vandy, or Memphis, either.

Wonder why he took ASU when Houston and USM, two programs built to create the 'next big coach' were about to start calling.

And yes, I believe it's a done deal.

Good for Klemm, he gets to go home, have influence in game-planning and coach at a school that is an easier sell.

Porter was beating SEC schools like Arkansas for kids in the Memphis area - he can flat out recruit. His biggest issue was he wasn't ready to be a HC, hadn't even been a Coordinator yet.

Plus, I think coming from LA he should have ties to East Texas - he could absolutely start making some inroads there.

Disappointing, but not surprising to hear.
Let's try to find someone just as good or better.

Touche, I did not know that :D . He got fired, so it would definitely be worth a call to him IMO.

Knowing how June works we'll probably be disappointed but in the long run it'll work out.
