You are right, I would rather not know anything. Jeez. Would hate for any recruits that follow him on facebook to hear about it and think "wow, SMU is really coming on." That would be terrible.
The other way he could handle it is to tell the guys at Rivals to call the kid, who would tell them that he had called Jeff. Would that be better in your eyes?

Yes, we prefer our recruiters to work under the cover of darkness and secrecy.

Yep I certainly would. Some hit the recruiting trail hard-others self promote by tweeting all day who they recruit.

Others do both, knowing in this day and age the vital importance of social media.

Calling the rivals guy and telling them who you just spoke with or offered so that they can call is self promotion as well. I know you know better than to believe that the services just happen to call a recruit in California 5 minutes after they get off the phone with Klemm, or whomever.
Klemm culitivated a great relationship with the Rivals guys, it was good for SMU and for him. Jeff seems to take more of a direct to the masses approach. I do not think there is a huge difference in terms of the "look at me" factor between the two approaches.

Boil this down for me. What are we really criticizing? I think it's nothing more than I don't like tan guys with tattoos who are adept at social media. Real coaches look like Ron Meyer and don't know how to turn a computer on but do know how to pin a hundred on a bulletin board.

I wonder why 98% of recruiters do it the other way through the recruiting services? Hmmmm?

Did we ever confirm if Stallion went on a normal cruise or a gay cruise?

I'm glad that Jeff is sending some positive messages about the football program to the world. After the last couple of weeks, I'm thrilled with any good news. I'm thrilled that folks are interested in attending SMU and being a part of this program.

"We" aren't criticizing anything. Some are just looking for a reason to complain and find fault with every action taken by every coach associated with SMU Football in any capacity. They are caught in the mentality that everything is a lie and/or covered in some ulterior, self-serving motive. After all, nobody could possibly be trying to promote a positive image of the university who happens to work for said institution in an official capacity, right?

It would be way too awesome to have a couple more highly recruited guys transfer so that 2013 is not only our first BE year, but also the year our recruiting (and program) step up to the next level!
Won't happen, way to positive for us...

I am not arguing that cultivating the relationships with the services is not important, I wish Jeff would post the Facebook status AND put in the direct word to the services.
However, I do not see that Jeff's approach is any more attention seeking than the other approach. You clearly do, as evidenced by your sarcastic post above, and that is what I was responding to.
