Re: Free Printz Update
It may sound silly, but its a direct quote from the kids dad.
Re: Free Printz Update
I agree it is a quote from the kid's dad, have no reason to doubt that is what happened and am very suprised that no one would have answered the phone. However, all of that can be true and 1983 Cotton Bowl can be right as well, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Re: Free Printz Update
Actually the phone call scenario kind of makes sense. My daughter, a soccer player was being recruited her junior year and as I understood the phone call rule, they went something like this.
The school can respond to the first inquiry with an email/letter/call stating the NCAA rules regarding recruiting and informing the student they will add them to a watch list, etc...
The school may not return subsequent messages until (I thought they said July, but it may be April) of their junior year.
The athlete can call the school/coach as much as they want, and if a coach happens to answer the phone, they can talk all they want, and this can can happen as many times as the athlete wants to call. As long as its not a scheduled call.
Obviously a lot more rules, but I think that covers the phone call issue.

....I bet we still had a shot before the 199th failure to answer.

If you send this coaching staff a note, maybe you can point them in the direction of 2013 QBs in Whiteright, Bryan, Temple and other parts of Texas.

LOL...I bet you're right.
Didn't you two foe each other?
Sad news if we lose him, especially if it was preventable through a little communication. Weird that he stayed committed through the turmoil, then reconsidered afterwards. Probably more to the story that we will never know.
Stick with SMU Eddie Printz and family. You will love it here.

That I would understand.
The telephone call story sounds silly.
This.
And those rules are definitely silly.

Kid was a hot commodity before he committed to us. He had already been all over the country checking out programs. The reason we lost him was some combination of the ASU, Klemm, and not answering the phone calls fiascos.
Re: Free Printz Update
Sorry we lost Printz but, qb might be one of our strongest positions over the next few years. Printz might be concerned about the sudden strength that wasn't foreseen when he first committed to the program. Call me optimistic, but I see SMU as growing much stronger over the next few years in the skill positions, particularly at qb and receivers. I think that potential scares him.
Re: Free Printz Update
I think this de-commitment is fallout from the possible coaching change. If the possible move to ASU had not gotten out of hand the way it did, I don't think there would have been any concern on their end and thus no reason to make 200 touches (calls, emails, etc.) to try to contact the coaches. Add the loss of Klemm, who was our best salesman and now we have no one to spin this situation in a positive light. I really hope that we land an awesome recruiter with Texas ties to build momentum going forward. As I said previously, I think we will be ok with this class, but will suffer Klemm's loss going forward.

Free Printz Update
Still leaning towards the "convenient excuse" side of this.
Re: Free Printz Update
I know it would have been tough to hold onto him regardless, but the timing is what makes me think that the ASU situation catalyzed his de-commitment.
Re: Free Printz Update
Maybe so, however, if I'm Daddy Printz and I find out that it would have broken NCAA rules for Coach Jones to return my call I commend them for following the rules. Moreover, Printz was a strong Jones supporter. I would further speculate that had Jones gone to ASU so would Printz. If that is true, why is he backing out of his commitment? I say it is the tough competition for the starting spot. I guess I'm not a good judge on who's making things up and who's being honest because AK made me look stupid when I believed him. Nonetheless, I think there is something more to the story than Coach Jones moving or not returning Printz's calls.

Eddie Printz's dad new the rules. He indicated that somebody could have at least picked up the phone (or called his coach). Interesting how UCLA was able to communicate with him which is where Adrian Klemm is.
