Mandatory anything will not work. Let this idea die

The ONLY way to increase attendance is to shut the boulevard down 2 hours before kickoff.

Stage events after the games such as concerts. Admission is a game tickets. Must enter in first half.

The "Operation Sellout" for the Stephen F. Austin game a couple years back, while not a true sellout, was quite successful. The Herculean effort that created that atmosphere must be sustained throughout the entire home schedule. I don't understand why that was only done once.

If you want a wrist band for the Boulevard you must have a ticket. Then put lucky numbers on the bands and give away stuff at the game; best stuff in the 4th quarter.

myrdell has the right words - make them want to come - but how in practical terms is something else again. I am afraid the door prizes or equivalent would have only a limited effect although local businesses might be induced to offer the prizes.

Perhaps as much as anything a problem is that we are an automobile oriented culture. If you can't park conveniently you don't go. That applies to about anyone not already on campus.

If something like the Jerry Lewis MDA events I remember at the Cotton Bowl could be reinstated it might help for one game.

But parking is incredibly convenient. Pay lots on campus and free parking within a five minute walk. People pay $50 to walk 30 minutes to Jerry world.

Hate to once again bring up the TCU comparison, but...I don't know how they did it (or maybe it is just that Ft Worth has a small town outlook on life), but TCU has gotten the City of Ft Worth behind them. The Ft Worth Mayor is asking the folks in Ft Worth to wear purple tomorrow in support of TCU's bowl game.

Some how we have to get Dallas to once again think of SMU as their college team.

to dream the impossible dream

I honestly believe we will be a niche market for the foreseeable future. But that's how I've always seen Smu. We are the quirky Methodists who ARE Dallas but don't quite fit in WITH Dallas (because we care about something for longer than a few months).

Perhaps one way to reach out to Dallas area community is invite guests to participate, such as "Forney High School Band will perform with the Mustang Band before and after the game. You must have a ticket to the game to enjoy this event." Parents and school friends would buy some tickets and it would give the school some great recognition. I also like the idea of a rock concert or other event after the game to draw a younger diverse crowd. Nonetheless, trying ANYTHING is a step in the right direction.

I support this. And, in actuality, it is not far fetched at all. They have several of them in the crows nests at Jerryworld.

we did it this year too. It was successful for the UTEP game but we didn't meet our goal for the UCF game. And apparently it showed.
