Wuba is a coachless Pitt really higher profile than BYU?
Does Pitt draw as well as BYU?
I am really not sure?
Wow griping about our bowl games

i am happy that you are happy for me. I would much rather go to Birmingham then play in our own stadium on a weekday for the second year in a row.
stop bellyaching like an old fart and go to birmingham - you will have fun. And i actually think everyone but a very few agree with me.

Pitt is in an AQ conference, BYU is not. Some non AQ teams are more high profile than some non-AQ teams, but BYU-Pitt is not one of those cases.

IPP, if you want to go you can still go. It is only the 3rd qtr now and it seems that seats are available as I see some empty seats on TV.

The best opportunity SMU had this year was to finish strong at 8-4 (or even 9-3) and get a New Years TicketCity Bowl bid against-by strike of luck-Penn St. SMU would have had momentum and that would have been just the challenge this fanbase needs to get behind a growing program against a team with a national profile. Would have loved to see what happened in that scenario. Think we could have sold that to a lot of receptive Dallas fans and SMU lurkers-returning to the Cotton Bowl. Unfortunately, we called it off early this year.

I think that in terms of high profile Pitt and BYU are about the same. The biggest thing here is not going back to the same bowl in back to back seasons. My preference is first to play the best possible opponent (combination of the teams performance that season and their programs profile) and second to stay as close to Dallas as possible as it helps our attendance and my pocketbook!

Um, the Armed Forces Bowl chose who they wanted in their bowl. They wanted Tulsa and BYU. SMU was not their first pick.

Here's an idea -- stop being little crybabies and support your team by traveling to the bowl game, wherever that may be. Aside from hawaii, every bowl game is makeable.
Complain about staying home. Complain about Hawaii. Complain about Birmingham. Some of you guys would beech and moan about the taxes you have to pay after you've won the lottery!
3 bowls in 3 years. If you haven't found a way to attend at least one, you aren't a real fan and your opinions don't amount to jack scmidt.

well i hope you're happy....
all you folks that screamed...
"oh no lets not do the Armed Forces Bowl...
we and the players all wanna go
somewhere exciting and exotic
the players deserve a big nice trip...blah blah!"
so.....instead of us all being on the Blvd today and at least 10 thousand SMU
Fans about to march into a sold out Ford Stadium on a beautiful day in Dallas...
we await the exotic, exciting Birmingham, Alabama.
where maybe if we are lucky 1000 SMU fans will sit
in a mammoth empty decrepit stadium in no telling what kind of weather.
jezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
i suppose we make more money at compass bowl?
Do you really believe that what anyone posted on here is the reason we did not go to the Armed Forces Bowl? That is what it sounds like from the second and third lines of your posts, but do you really think anyone here caused it?
You know, he probably does. Scary.

I love my alma mater, sometimes in spite of the students and fans. For all those that beetch and moan about attendance and our perception in the media...why don't you do something proactive to change it??
Easy idea - attend bowl games. Attend home games. Even if it is rush or some stupid greek party. You wonder why the media and other schools rip our fans and students?? This is why.
SMU students = SOFT. Hate to say it, but it is the plain and simple fact.
Chew on that.

People complained they didn't want the AFB, "no fun staying home"
Not the TCB, "Cotton Bowl will be empty, and it will be cold"
Not the Beef O'Brady Bowl in Florida, "it's on a Tuesday, against a Sun Belt team"
Not the New Orleans Bowl, "don't wanna play a Sun Belt team"
Not the Hawaii Bowl, "June is selfish, it's during the holidays, and too expensive"
Brings us to the Compass Bowl. A known opponent in Pittsburgh, a BCS team, after the holidays, on a Saturday, pretty inexpensive, winnable game, and for you "it's going to be freezing cold cry babies", it's going to be 60 frickin' degrees!!! If you call yourself a fan of SMU, and you can afford to go, you should consider going to support the Mustangs. Beat Pitt!
