here's his career Stats at Texas. The big negatives that jump out at you are TD/Int ratio and yards per attempt. But again I don't believe in writing young QBs off which SMU fans seem to want to do after our starter fails as a Freshman or Sophomore. Same can be said for Padron. I think both have All-Conference potential.

HE played on a bad 2010 Tx team (5-7). All his fault? I doubt it.
4 INTs vs #1 bama D as a true fresh.

KP has no chance if GG get's here early and starts learning the O. I hate that because I like Kyle but that's what happens when your program starts to excel.

Gilbert was No. 103 in QB rating at about 111 some 26 points below Padron who had a QB rating of about 137. Let's hold off in annoiting him as a Saviour. No reason to dump on Padron-he had a creditable Sophomore year-he'll improve. Let em fight it out. I'd say Padron has a chance. If you are going to complain about Padron as a Sophomore-Gilbert had an even more sketchy Sophomore year in just about every stat they keep. That's why he is planning to enroll at SMU

you can compare stats, but lets remember that C USA isn't exactly known for stellar defense.

They are both top-notch qb's and it wood be good for them and us for them to compete to be number 1.

Not all Gilbert's fault. UT had recruited big o-line who could not run block and changed schemes to be more of a running team but couldn't due to injuries and poor line play(even though they were all-world recruits). Then they asked gilbert to win the games passing with project only type receivers besides shipley who was a freshman! He took the fall just like the coaches who resigned did the previous year.

Totally agree...I am not at all dumping on KP. I love this kid and think he really got the shaft this past year. I have never complained about KP, not once. Maybe saying he has no chance was a little bold but I just think these two athletes are on two different levels. JMO

It's going to be a fun spring regardless who gets the starting nod by Fall. I think it's going to come down to who has the better muscle between the ears on these two - they are both big, strong kids with great physical ability. Both are also pretty mobile. Whomever can "see" the field the best will win out. Right now, you'd think Kyle has the advantage simply because he knows the system and personnel. If GG gets the nod, we're going to find out what kind of leadership skills he has as he's going to have to win over the guys on the team who are pulling for KP. Also, will he be here for 2 years? If that's the case, it really sucks for Kyle. If not, let GG have his year of glory and then KP can have his then CP then Burcham. Everyone wins!

It will be a fun spring, but GG won't be there, and it sounds like Padron might not be, either, as he recovers from that ankle surgery. Spring, therefore, is likely to be the Kaiser and Preston show, isn't it?

No, but is it partly his fault? Absolutely.

Couldn't disagree more. Padron has the benefit of having had three years learning the system. GG might be very talented, but he'll be a freshman in this offense when he arrives.

Both Ash and McCoy II struggled just like Gilbert in the same offense. Simply put, the pass blocking by UT's 4 and 5 star OL has been horrible for years. Under Young, it wasn't a big deal as he would run for huge gains once blocking broke down. McCoy II was very elusive, could really throw on the run, and had better WR's.
Gilbert has a great arm, some mobility, and good accuracy. If they can keep guys off him, I think he is going to destroy CUSA defenses in the RnShoot.

Why won't GG be here in the spring? Isn't he enrolling now?
Sorry if it's been stated officially but I don't know the particulars.

he won't be here until Fall or the the summer because he is transferring under the graduate transfer rule. He is a free agent until he sits down for his first class at SMU

Ours are just as good or better.
