It'll be exactly the same after 5 straight bowls and/or 10 win seasons!
Didn't you know "message board football experts"
know better than people making millions coaching football!
Plus if it's not about the horses, the uniforms, game start times,
ticket/blvd prices, Orsini, Turner, June's (like Tom Landry) lack of "rah rah",
heck it'd be something else. Lets face it....after 3 straight bowl games...
some people just live to complain or be in a panic about something.
Pity and laugh at them for not enjoying the ride.....I do!
I guess it's just a difference of opinion. We were really bad and irrelevant for 20 years, and I was right there through most of it (student in the mid 90s). Which makes me appreciate the past three years as much as anyone. As you put it, I've totally enjoyed the ride. That said, I dont understand why we should just sit back and be content with our recent moderate success?
I think it's the competitive nature in all fans to want to improve, not to stay the same or go back. Going 2-1 in minor bowls is a great start but now I want to go to a bigger bowl (see TCU). I want us to continue to get better and I want fans, coaches and players who have the drive/hunger to do the same. Not fans, coaches and players who are content. We should all be proud of recent success but not content.
As for JJ, I have no idea if he is in Hawaii playing golf or visiting recruits but I do expect him to improve our program, and I hope the people paying his salary demand it. The way he handled the ASU situation was embarrassing and it cost us A LOT - we lost a ton of incoming talent and by a mile our best recruiter because of it. Regardless, my expectations are still rising.

So you are saying Klemm would not have gone to UCLA if JJ had handled the ASU situation differently? How could he have handled it that would have kept Klemm here right now?

That's a good question. It's just my opinion, but if JJ had been 100% committed to SMU (not flirting with ASU) and shown Klemm some love by going to the circle of champs and getting him more money and giving him a better title, I think he'd happily still be in Dallas. I know Klemm is an LA guy but as people have mentioned, UCLA is not that great a job. If he had taken the same job at USC, then I'd admit nothing would've kept him here.

That to me and anyone with a brain shows a lack of effort and dedication. We even had a visitor that weekend that we wanted a commit from and he didn't think it was worth his time to be here.
Oh please. He doesn't owe us an itinerary of his schedule -- it would be counter-productive to provide one, in some cases -- just like coaches at many other schools don't advertise when they're going to be where.
sbsmith wrote:How much work could it possibly take to flip a NTCC commit? Not exactly big game hunting.
Maybe he's one of those rare players who means it when he makes a commitment, whether it's to the school, the coaches, etc. If he feels his commitment really is just that -- a commitment -- then it would take some salesmanship.

It would be nice if more than one recruit in an entire recruiting year mentioned June visiting them. They all get interviewed on a consistent basis. One visit has been mentioned, thats it. What is the one thing we hear about? It is about June in Hawaii watching a golf tournament. He let WSU and UCLA pillage our class while he was building sand castles. I don't not want to know what he is doing every hour of every day. What I do want to know is that he is giving us his best effort especially during crunch time. There is too much evidence to support that he isnt.

For those of you unaware of the ncaa recruiting rules......they are strict! A coach can't just willy nilly go and visit recruits. There are a limited number of visits and times and restrictions. Most head coaches don't make a home visit except to solidify the commitment and/or convince a late recruit a few weeks before signing day. The good smart ones like Mac Brown will also visit with the high school coach and assistants and make an appearance at the high school for goodwill visit with counselors, teachers and anyone else for autographs/pictures and guess what.....the underclassmen who the program might recruit for the next few years see this too!

I at least am perfectly aware of the limitations and I know for a fact that it is not a total of 1 home visit a year for all recruits.

Goldenstang..glad you are so well versed in this matter. What is the number of in-home visits by the head coach and when can they be made?

It's a difference in personality. The people (like IPP) who don't want anyone to discuss negatives and don't think anyone should be allowed to question the coach, the AD, or the university right now after 3 bowls are the SAME people who said the SAME thing when we were totally sucking. It's like Stallion, devisive blowhard that he is - he was getting attacked by these same people for being negative about the "model" when they were all lining up to sniff Copeland/Turner's butt about what we were doing. These are the same people who never questioned their professors, never questioned the religion they were born into, never question the political party the follow, etc.

what another crock from couch 'em.
you saying I dont want anyone discussing negatives
would me like me saying...you (couch 'em) dont want me to respond to negatives
you appear to want a "one way street"
people cursing and demeaning our 3 straight bowls coach
oh & heaven forbid if I respond to the negatives with a different perspective
responding...is not censorship as you so wrongly imply

Raise your hand if you don't like SMU playing in bowl games. *cricket chirp* Of course everyone is happy SMU is going to bowl games. It's the bumbling and stumbling we did to get there and serious concerns about our future that people are upset about. Look up "straw-man argument".
