Then they wouldn't be free, so that defeats the original idea, right?

Music 00, Sorry, I was just trying to help. I guess I'll stop talking to alumni at games about SMU needs cause we don't need their thoughts. Anyway, I'm sure you have much better ideas than any from Georgia. So, what are yours?

I think you have a fine idea. But, selling tickets and giving away tickets are different matters.

Also, pro sports operate on a completely different financial model than schools like SMU.

My personal goal is to convince a few more folks from the blvd to get into the games next year and also to try and replicate the kind of crowd energy we had in Bham. All I got.

Sorry again smusic 00, I was a little too sassy last post. I'm with you on your idea too. I hope we can find a way to get blvd people into the stadium. (Maybe Ford needs 50 cent beer! LOL)

love you, man! And 50 cent beer!!

50 cent tickets for high school students/, if allowed, could be a cool promotion for the yutes.

At Univ. of Delaware they have a "Band Day" (usually for a game that would normally not generate as many fans) where where many high school bands from the state are invited. All of the bands, along with the UD band play together at half time and again play for a more extended time at the end of the game. This generates a huge crowd as all of the participants families purchase tickets so they can watch their family member. And with playing both at half time and at the end of the game, they stay in their seats for the entire game!

Too many people stay out on the BLVD. Need mounted police to herd them into the stadium like cattle.

As a catholic, I would say that Catholic school administrators are the ones doing the marketing for Notre Dame, not priests. The coach of Notre Dame walks into any Catholic school in America and he is instantly treated like the pope.

Using american protestant ministers as a marketing tool won't work cuz ministers don't give a crap.

Sometimes the most obvious solution is the last one discussed. Dallas is a huge market of millions of people. Most of whom love football but can't afford to go to a Cowboy game. SMU should market to t-shirt fans.

While it is now nearly 30 years since Mustang Mania, many of these may seem old:
Band Day -- annual event - gets 500 to 1000 kids & family, Methodist Youth Day - again, not large but a get way to reach young fans, Giveaways - anyone older than 30 remembers the Mania t shirts (everyone loves something free) all were paid by corporations, YMCA (&/or Boys & Girls Club) Day - like Church Youth day gets them early. All of these can be paid for by corporations, however it takes someone to approach the companies & management the process. Hopefully with BE money (come on TV contract), a department can be funded.

1)Don't admit apathetic high school students to SMU. Recruit students who are well-rounded and have school spirit as an important factor in the admissions process. 2) Remove the coveted snob tag and make the gameday experience inviting to all law-abiding citizens. 3) Requirement of coveted tailgate spots on blvd must buy certain number of tickets along with financial backing and attend game. 4) family packs for people in surrounding neighborhoods and communities 5) jerseys and replica jerseys of any number or player instead of just 11. 6) communicate how important fans are to winning football programs and conference affilaitions along with $$ involved. 7) Appeal to disappointed again cowboys fans

Students who have "school spirit" for a place with no fans like SMU are not recruited, they are created. You create loyalty through shared suffering. That's why hazing is so effective and important. (note - I mean general hazing, not hazing as defined and illegal under the law) That's why aggies are so hardcore (see all their cult like shared group experiences and traditions - their hazing) and why schools with successful teams breed loyalty over and over (the shared hazing of everyone going to the game together with the right attitude) and why half the posters on this board were in the band (shared "hazing" of suffering for SMU via practices, attending games, etc.)

We need to borrow a little bit of aggy brain washing tactics.
