I really am not anti-Jones, but I too am concerned. I am paraphrasing, but three comments by June stick in my mind. 1) At a luncheon back in October I believe, he said we are now competing against AQ schools for recruits. 2) I dont believe it was the same luncheon, but in response to another recruiting question he said we have a bigger pool of recruits and should have fewer academic risks. 3) After the bowl game, he said the move to the Big East was a 'game changer' especially for recruiting.

I am trying to be optimistic, but right now all I can say is "Still waiting".

If we are compete against AQ why have most of our offers since AK has left gone to recruits with no AQ schools going after them? We are going after kids that are getting recruiting hard by Wyoming, UNT, and Air Force. What gives? Maybe JP or Palcic will pull at rabbit or 2 out of the hat.

I also am concerned and very upset at the loss of committments thus far, but I think you must first look at the current roster and realize that we do have some solid OL and DL kids ready to see some action. Obviously, Levingston would be a big need to keep. This year may not be absolutely critical for linemen; however, the pressure is really on for next year if this upcoming recruiting class remains as thin as it appears. Next year's recruits will determine if the program sustains continued life or starts to fail.

We beat two AQ schols out of 3 this year using recruits that recrting services said wernt supposed to be good

And we also got beat by Navy, and only one of the teams you mentioned that were AQ (although they were not in an AQ conference) had a winning record. In fact, we only beat one team with a winning record all season. Hopefully there are plenty of teams like Rice, Tulane, UTEP, NW State and Memphis in the Big East..........

That is if we do not lose Myers to aTm since he just got offered by them.

to answer your question NC, yes, I think if you want to stay ahead of the curve, you can fire a successful coach for poor recruiting; otherwise you run the risk that most on here think will happen and what even JJ alluded to. You fall back.

We should be a dominant force in the BE, and we can't wait 4 or 5 years to be so, given the fragile nature of the BE and the BCS. Recruiting Top 70 classes prevents that.

IMO, JJ is simply not cutting it. We are paying him top dollar and he simply is not engaged enough.

I would rather have AK and a new HC right now if it meant a Top 40 class and Prinz.

and for the record, I think JJ is a good coach, not a great one. Look at his record against the service academies.

Levingston is gone.

The top coach and top recruiter on the staff never even gets mentioned on this board--that is why their is a certain amount of scepticism regarding recruiting services.

Talk to some top ex-coaches and they all agree that recruiting services are for fans, not coaches. They will laugh as to how they manipulate the so-call stars. Need a better looking class? Just call your favors at X or Y service and get your recruits upgraded.

By the way, our top recruiter is also our quitest--Tom Mason, heir apparent.

I know you are a big Mason fan but he has been the main recruiter at Skyline since he got here and has not gotten one commit from them. Not to mention offers to players like McElroy and Thomas while Hood and Collins did not even make it into school. He not our worst but he is definitely not our best. Outside of JP (since JR may not be here), I would say Derrick Odum is probably the best current recruiter.

With JR and Klemm gone and JP not doing anything yet I guess you could call Mason our top recruiter.

Honestly Odum and Mason have both dropped the ball big time this year. Not really sure what Odum has been doing, one commit out of Florida that is strongly considering staying closer to home, one offer made in dfw and nothing else. Mason has only gotten a two star (who I think has a ton of upside) and a Neroes. These guys have done well in the past but have done terrible this year.

Also, Mason had 0 recruits in 2009.
