Notre Dame? No way. Until the financial landscape of college football changes, they don't need a conference.

Navy, on the other hand, is great news.

Navy is a really important addition for TV. Glad that is done. Now we need BYU. The league really needs one more big name football program. If not BYU, then Air Force still helps solidify TV. If Air Force won't do it, you might have to go with Memphis because Villanova will not accept Temple.

Great news on Navy. Now if we could just get AFA and Army into the group that would make for a very good conference.

I agree that BYU and AFA should be approached again, as the BE begins negotiation on new FB TV package. Win/win, since the BE is looking better with each new announcement. BTW, on a Big East blog, some are proposing 14 FB teams by 2015. Either way, BE will be solid and a nice national brand.

BYU would be good. I'd hate to add AFA and have to potentially face two option teams each year. They'd be a good addition too, though.

Here's my thing with ND: if they're in the BE the past few seasons, don't they win that conference a few times? And thus go to BCS games and make tons of $$$? If they join the BE now, they'd be the odds-on favorite to win the conference each year for the foreseeable future, they'd still get to play a nationwide schedule from the Northeast to Texas to Florida to California. They could also still keep USC and Michigan on their schedule as 2 of their 4 OOC games. I'm sure the BE would bend over backwards in terms of scheduling and TV to get them in as well.

unfortunately, I don't think it is all about winning BCS games. As usual, it all comes down to money and ND makes way more as an Indy than a Big East member splitting th epie 12 (or 14) ways. Sad, but true.

It's not about money with Notre Dame. They could make more TV money if they joined the Big Ten or Big 12. The money the power conferences get now has surpassed Notre Dame's deal with NBC. But being independent is sacred to Notre Dame alums. To them, it's part of the fabric of Notre Dame football that they aren't tied to a conference.
