Seriously? We aren't going to get anything special from Nike. Did you watch the C-USA championship game?
Southern Miss and Houston were in the exact same uniform (just different colors). There is very little chance we ever get anything but Nike templates.
Although Nike is still 10,000 times better than Under Armour (especially with SMU's demographics), this is still just horrible news.
People can complain about red/blue, shades of red/blue, sleeve stripes, pants stripes all they want - but we at least got a custom design out of adidas.
Even if we get one or two recruits a year because of this (which is really sad if it's true), it's not worth selling our soul.
This news makes me sick to my stomach.

I get the value in wearing stuff that appeals to recruits.
But as a rule, I can't stand Nike. Their ProCombat stuff looks like it was designed by a cartoon artist, and has a serious Arena League feel to it. Adidas has a classic appearance that looks great.
Thankfully, I have a closet full of Adidas stuff. Hope it lasts 5 years.

Adidas is boring and lifeless nothing classic IMO. Adidas design team must be a bunch of out of work accounts or something. Looking forward to see if we get one game a year to wear the pro combat unis.

I'm trying to think of any big name Nike schools that share our same color scheme. With adidas we were able to piggyback off of customized Kansas gear. I can't think of any Nike schools with our current red & blue.

The admin seems to have forgotten how nike treated us like a red-headed step-child that last time we did business with them. Not happy with this change. Like a previous post- I hope my Adidas stuff lasts longer then the new agreement.
GO PONIES!!!

Well maybe since we were not in a bigtime conference and had not gone to a bowl they may not have made us a priority but since we have 3 bowl games behind us and are BCS conference bound maybe we will be treated better. I am sure that was discussed in the negotiations.

I see a future with faux pony fur pants and a mane decal on our helmets.

Finally, we might be able to find something wearable in the bookstore. Come to think of it, my game day polo is already a Nike dry fit

If the recruits like Nike, then give it to them... within reason. Maryland got something that was not withing reason from UnderArmor. If we end up with something like this, I am going to wear TCU purple...

Longtime wrote:I like the move to Nike. Sure, it will mean we probably wear some garish pro-combat uniform once in a while, but in general the better-looking uniforms in college football seem to be Nike-made. Having gone to three straight bowls and joining the Big East should make Nike give us a little more attention.
The fit of our adidas football unis this year was atrocious. I realize football jerseys are now skin-tight no longer have real sleeves, but ours looked like they used less material to save money. The gaping arm holes, where the jersey should come together over the shoulder, were particularly bad. Texas A&M is also an addidas school and their unis seemed to fit them properly. Maybe bigger schools get better tailoring?
Switching to Nike means (hopefully) we may cut down to just two or three stripes on the sleeves, instead of the multitude of stripes we have now. That's a good thing.
And in general I think Nike markets its schools' products better. We should be able to purchase more and better Nike-made SMU clothing, caps and replica jerseys in the future. That is, if we can get stores (including the SMU Bookstore) to stock it. The Nike name might open a few retailers' doors, but people need to buy the stuff to really make Nike take notice. In my experience, when quality SMU apparel is made available and in popular sizes (not just S, M and L), it usually sells.
I like how this is almost verbatim (except switch "Nike" and "Adidas") from many posts that were made on here when we switched from Nike to Adidas a few years ago.

Someone please tell me what Adidas ever did for us? I see a few comments about Nike not paying attention to us, it seems to me Adidas did the exact same thing.

it doesn't F'ing matter. We get what we get. If we get the chance to change the design, I'm fine with that. I think the current stripes on the sleeve are busy. I didnt like the old Nike or the blue helmet, but in the end it doesn't matter.
