Honestly, the word of the "injury" took place a little too late in the season to go for the medical redshirt. I believe it has to occur before 25% of a team's games in the season have taken place, and we know that he dressed for the games up until the USM game, which I believe was the 7th game of the season.
I do not know Calallen. I thought I knew the rule and then have heard that McJunkin has already received a medical hardship for last year. He dressed all games, looked fit to play, confronted an opposing player after what he thought was a late hit on JJMc. I have been asking as to how he was eligible and have heard no response. No question I am glad if he did receive the hardship, but he certainly does not fit the guidelines.
I think Padron did sustain an injury in the first 3 games and should be eligible. Apparently dressing out does not figure into the equation.

A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted an athlete who appears in fewer than 30% of his or her team's competitions (with none coming after the midway point of the season), then suffers a season-ending injury. A player who is granted such a waiver is treated for the purposes of their eligibility as though he or she had not competed in that season.

Correct. And they round up to the next amount of games played. That means if you played a 12 game season, 30% would be 3.6 games which would round up to 4. So as long as you played in 4 games or less within the first 6 games you are eligible for the hardship. But it must be season ending and documented as such. I did not witness that type of injury with McJunkin although I am not privy to the inside info.

Okay, so Padron played in three games (A&M, UTEP, NSU) and the word of the injury came before the USM game. So that would actually make him eligible for the hardship waiver, no?

He's eligible (subject to being medically verified) because the "injury" occurred about 4 days BEFORE the 7th game, he didn't play in the second half of the season and he didn't play in more than 30% of the regular season games.

I would have thought that the probability of getting that medical RS weighed very heavily in KP's decision to transfer. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem worth it to go somewhere to only play one season. Just read on his twitter that he'll be in the Spokane area visiting EWU on Friday and Sat. I do feel like EWU is the best fit for him at the FCS level. Only time will tell.....but a good sign for EWU that it appears it's the first school he's visited.

Agreed. If he can get healed up, I think he has a chance to make a big impact in the Big Sky. It will be hard to replace Bo Levi. So interesting how things come full circle sometimes.

I could see why you'd say that. He wasn't spectacular at SMU. To be honest, BLM really struggled te first half of the season his first year at EWU. And I'd say just above average until the last couple of games of that year. He improved tremendously his Senior year, it was really night and day. Had a game against Washington in which he threw for almost 500 yards. Unfortunatey, he also threw a pick that would have won the game for us which would have been a big upset for EWU.
Sucks that KP decided to leave SMU, but I imagine he is just too good a player to sit anywhere. Really interested in seeing what he'll be able to do with our receivers.....the starting three go 6'3, 6'3, and 6'5 and all have great speed.

EWU Ranger - Bo may have struggled early, but he brought you a NC and kept you in games last year. Careful getting sucked in by the BLM haters on this board. Also, Bo was very instrumental in getting KP to EWU. I only hope for EWU, that is a good thing. Could be, should be, but KP is not BLM in many ways....
CalAllenStang - if KP is only "as good as Bo at the FCS level", then you are saying EWU can expect to win the FCS his first year and KP will win the WP award. No reason he shouldnt have major success. He will start with better all around receivers, a solid o-line, and a decent running game. Not TJ, but still should be solid. So, finally, we get to wait and see, then compare. I don't think KP will stay healthy enough to make a difference.

Just to be clear, I'm a huge Bo Levi fan. I do think he progressed quite a bit between his Junior and Senior years, though.
Anyway, I think most are pretty happy to see Kyle come up to Washington. Best of luck SMU fans this coming season, I'll be following you guys.
