What about Kermit Davis. He is killing it at MTSU this year.

Please not Kermit Davis. What has he done in his long career outside of this year? Exception that proves the rule, IMO

Greenberg is perfect, IF he gets fired. He'd rocket up to my #1 choice w/o question. Capel can't coach, just a great recruiter, so he's like a cheap Hewitt to me. I like him, though. Shaka is great, but I don't think he settles on SMU. He's headed to a major major program, and his buyout/contract is lengthy

Watching MVC tournament right now. Ben Jacobson's team has no athletecism. Can he recruit and he's just held back by UNI's location, or is the lack of athleticism due to a lack of recruiting ability?

Well, they weren't really out-athleted vs VCU. Gotta remember, if McDermott doesn't get the job at Creighton, he has Doug mcDermott on his team this year at UNI. That makes them the best team in the MVC. He's an insane bench coach, and his recruiting is pretty good.

no Greg Marshall on that list? Do you consider him untouchable, or probably headed to S. Carolina?

Both untouchable and headed to USC

Hoop Fan wrote:I like the list. I don't think we could get the more interesting names on the list like Jacobson or Drew, but I may be wrong. I think Orsini's real list will have names like Hewitt on it. Thats what i'm afraid of. Repeating Doh. I wish we would have taken a chance on a young assistant tied into DFW recruiting instead of Doh and said so at the time. Or a guys like Scott Sutton maybe who has done pretty well in Tulsa's shadow at ORU. We couldn't have done any worse the past 6 years. Doh's west coast recruiting turned out to be a complete failure, including apparently Eric Norman now.

I understand your point about not knowing if an assistant will translate as a head man. But I also think its just as valid to point out that it's hard to know if a middle-aged guy from the East Coast or upper Midwest somewhere is gonna translate to Texas recruiting and be able to make any mark and establish a base here. Brooks Thompson is interesting, as is Jones. I think Doh was an old school type of guy, I want someone from the new school: less stubborn, more adept at player relations.

The folks in Stillwater are not thrilled with Travis Ford @ all. If it wasn't for Smart & Forte coming in next season, I'm told he would be gone. Still not sure he won't be released unless OSU makes a run. Brooks Thompson is the #1 choice to replace Ford from what I'm hearing from several OSU alum.

Not the big name, but you have to be impressed with what Cross is doing over @ UTA. Not sure that's SO's style going with an up & comer. Also, I think Sutton @ Oral Roberts is very underrated. I think Jones @ UNT is a good fit as well.

An interesting name to consider now that we are headed to the Big East is Jeff Van Gundy. I know Houston and Rice have tried to lure him while they were looking to replace their coaches, but both were in CUSA at the time. He may not want to leave Houston, but Dallas is close enough and he gets to stay in Texas while playing in the Big East.

Just adding Rex Walters at San Francisco to the conversation. He followed Doherty at FAU and has done a nice job at building that program. Might be too soon for him but his career path reminds me of Turgeon.

The MVC final was Arch Madness. Tim J showed very well, but Doug McDermott is from a different planet. Oh yeah, congrats to Creighton Rc, and ex SMU rc, Steve Lutzx. Dance, my man, dance! Nice career move

Love MVC tournament action. City of St. Louis supports that event well. Great game in the final...Illinois State wouldn't die.

How much is Creighton paying Doug McDermott?
