In that case let's just make all the games flag football with no blocking allowed. Count to five after the snap before rushing the QB. Think of the money we would save...no helmets or pads needed.

A study by the NFL indicated that the majority of concussions happened on kickoffs. Also, with that guys getting paralyzed in a kick off return not to long ago it makes sense. Getting paralyzed it nothing to be made fun of. Players are bigger. faster, and stronger than they were when we played so safety issues have to be address in this age more so than back then.

Then just do away with onside kicks...this new rule does that anyway.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Sorry about that PK, I was reading too quickly (trying to get back to see what is going on with the basketball search) and did not not it said onside kicks not kickoff returns in general. You are correct, this is not a good rule IMO.

This rule is in response to the practice of the kicker kicking the ball hard into the ground just off the tee causing ball to go high in the air about 10 yards away. Receiver is awaiting ball to come down to catch it but is anhilated before ball comes down by 5 speeding lb types. Good rule

watch for a response...kickers will pop the ball toward the sideline area 20 yards downfield, in the area largely left open by both 'regular' formation...either that or kickoff will be declared a dead ball possession for the receiving team. Coming soon to your stadium.

Only time I ever got dinged was during a kickoff...of course, I was the kicker...
