This thread very very funny. Good plan though if we can pull it off and would be perfect as open eval is starting. Rob TCU at a critical time too.

I'm for Brown.
Hell, at least he's interested. He's had time off and seems enthusiastic.
Then keep him on staff as a mentor, like he mentioned, and with his credentials, an adjunct professor in sports management/ kinesiology/ coaching curriculum..
Not a bad little gig, and an interesting draw for recruits..

The basketball people around the country are noticing and it is not good pub. Ask PonyDoh how bad it really looks nationally.

Obviously, SMU AD Steve Orsini more clueless than anyone thought. RT @Darivuh: @GoodmanCBS Why would anyone want Larry Brown at this point?

All due respect to goodman but that's a dumb@ss tweet. He was good enough for the NBA two years ago.

Not a dumb tweet since Brown has been out on the college coaching seen for a long time.

If june left and Jimmy Johnson wanted the job, would you turn him down for an assistant?

Yep, I don't think we could get the players at SMU that he got at MIami. But who knows Brown might work out fine. I was just saying that Goodman's doubt's are not out of line.

btw it doesn't look like Rob Evans or Reggie Brown will be retained on Trent Johnson's new staff so if they want to invest in a great aggressive staff-and it would take a bunch of money you could have
Brown Head Coach
Benford Associate Head coach
Reggie Brown, Assistant(Recruiting)
Rob Evans-Director of Basketball Operations
Then let's see who laughs last

Not to shabby. Looks good to me.

stal- good staff. I would hope that Brown wouldn't demand a lot of money since he wants to get back into coaching and hasn't been at the college level for a while. If so, that would mean lots more bucks for the staff.

Any time Jimmy J wants a job here we should make room for him. He can recruit and motivate. Maybe just needs a few guidelines.

Marquette fan here dropping by to see what you guys thought of Benford. First of all, the Goodman tweet doesn't surprise me as Goodman is close friends with Buzz Williams so it's no shock that he's trying to promote Benford. I think Benford is a good fit for you guys with his Texas ties. He's also a great recruiter and will makes you guys competitive much faster than you think. With Benford, I strongly feel that SMU could be in the upper half of the big east in 3 years. My advice to you guys is to give this guy a chance before saying the hiring process was a failure. Many up in Milwaukee thought MU failed when they hired Buzz Williams four years ago with 1 year of head coaching experience at Division 1. So, good luck to you all on the rebuild. See you up in Milwaukee (or down in Dallas) in 2 years.

I agree. He's a strong candidate, but of course, Buzz could be gone too someday (see: Crean) just ahead of the posse, and he could be hanging around waiting for Buzz to eject.

I was really wanting someone else.
So both or neither.
All or nothing.
Whatever happens I hope it's just great.

Thanks Warrier....my all time fav NBA player was the ULTIMATE PF, Maurice Lucas....nuff said. If we get Benford together with Brown it would be the best of all. Good luck to all and we look forward to beating yo arsses soon enough.....!!!
