Of course this is assuming Gilbert ends up here and plays competently, if we see anything resembling the horror show he put on at Texas or if we get stuck having to start Preston or Kaiser then we will finish with a losing regular season record.

Yeah, I mean it's only year five. We should totally be dependent upon a transfer QB walking in and basically on day 1 running the offense better than half a dozen other guys over four years. Woo!

Do you think Padron would have transferred if Gilbert wasn't coming? He must have believed he could not win the starting position. Right or wrong?

6-6 Unless some miracle occurs on the O Line.
O line experience is crucial. Not much there. This offense was inefective, with a Senior O line, last year.
Defense should keep them in games, after a 1-3 start.

5-7 with the uncertainty at QB, June's system will be difficult to pick up even for Gilbert. Im anxious to see how our defense looks next year--i imagine it takes a small step back. I'm hoping for a 7-5 season, if we get a few bounces it could very well turn out that or better.

I think improved recruiting gives us a better team next year. 9-3 next year. We are the best of the conference with our home schedule and we will beat more than one OOC team. The UCF game on the road or the UTEP game on the road are the only conference concerns.
This is a team where most kids are use to winning and going to bowls. They have won big games and some key games over the years. No doubt we have a proven coach. And the players now are better players than a few years back thanks to recruiting.

Something went sour between JJ and Padron. Very strange deal!

Yeah, it definitely seemed like Kyle felt he wasn't going to be starting regardless of who was on the roster with him. There didn't seem to be any love lost between the two of them, which is a shame, because if Padron had continued to develop, he could have been a very competent ball tosser for us this year, regardless of whether Gilbert pans out.
With regard to Gilbert, I'm fairly confident that he'll start. At first I was hesitant, because of how complicated the system is reported to be. But then on the other hand, Jones has shown no hesitation with starting true freshmen out there, so I can't imagine he'll be slow to put a transfer Junior on the field.

I think Pony has a great year...
Date Opponent Result
Sep. 2 at Baylor 5:30pm Win
Sep. 8 Stephen F. Austin TBA Win
Sep. 15 Texas A&M TBA Loss
Sep. 29 TCU TBA Win
Oct. 6 at Texas-El Paso TBA Win
Oct. 13 at Tulane TBA Win
Oct. 20 Houston TBA Win
Oct. 27 Memphis TBA Win
Nov. 3 at UCF TBA Win
Nov. 10 Southern Miss. TBA Win
Nov. 17 at Rice TBA Win
Nov. 24 Tulsa TBA Loss
10-2 or 9-3. I think Baylor is going to be bad with Florence at the helm.
Tulsa could go either way. Thats gonna be the best game of the year.

7-5 with a tough front end OOC schedule. What's with this "Top 25" talk? Is Steve O. brainwashing you guys or do you truly believe we'll flirt with Top 25?

We finish better than last year...beat one team that we shouldn't (Baylor), and lose an idiot game to a much weaker opponent(Tulane/Memphis type). We make the CUSA championship game again versus UCF, and drain them...Bowl win follows.
10-4

12-2 and finish top 25. go out as CUSA champions, beat A&M and whatever scrub SEC team we play in the bowl game. Then lots of talk about how we'd fare better in the SEC than the aggies

Somehow I doubt the last point even if we go undefeated.
