But I can still buy one with a giant longhorn behind the numbers...

Don't see why they can't do one with an SMU blue background and red Mustang with the state name and license numbers in white (or you can flip the colors depending on preference - kinda like they did with the puke orange UT ones). Hope this gets worked out soon. Seeing places like NTCC out there with nothing of ours to offer is a little frustrating.

SMU Releases New Official Texas License Plate
Redesigned Mustang Plates At MyPlates.com

July 24, 2012

DALLAS (SMU) - New year, new conference, new plate! The SMU Mustangs have redesigned their official Texas license plates and the new plates are now available at http://www.myplates.com.
The new design features a white background and the red and blue school logo on the left and right of "TEXAS", which is written in red and outlined in blue.

"We've gone with a clean white background that makes the colors of our logo really stand out. These plates are a great way for fans to show their Mustang pride everywhere they drive and raise money for the school at the same time," says Brad Sutton, Associate Athletic Director for Public Relations and Marketing at SMU.

SMU plates start at $55 for a one-year, background-only design, and personalization starts at $85 for one year. The cost per year gets lower the longer term you buy. Check out the pricing chart at http://www.myplates.com.

Texans have bought more than 104,000 My Plates since November 2009, putting more than $11.2M in the state general revenue fund.

Gotta say, I am pretty glad that I got the old one with the red mustang while it was still available.

I got the "original" SMU plate with Peruna on the left. Somebody blew it with a very meek design on that new plate. What a waste.

The new one looks terrible! They should have kept the old design.

Really bad...I was waiting on it but will probably just go with the other SMU plate instead (linked earlier in this thread).

That is worse than bad. Hell even TCU has a better design. Hope we didn't spend a wad of cash on someone coming up with that design.

...that is seriously the new plate design? Whoever designed that should be fired. It took me like 5 minutes to find it because it was the only thumbnail that wasn't readily identifiable.

So disappointed. I was so mad at myself for missing out on the last one, but there is no way I am paying an extra $55 or whatever for that!

SMU SID wrote:SMU has had a plate through MyPlates.com (the faded pony behind the numbers). TxDOT then said that they will no longer allow any images that may distort the numbers (like the pony), so we had to redesign the SMU plate. It's with TxDOT now for final approval and should be available again soon.

So did Texas have to re-do theirs that had the huge whorn silhouette ?

too bad, our stinks.
Just don't understand why it can't be like Arkansas, TCU's, UNT's, UH's, Tech, Baylor and the rest. So dumb and so typical. The only one worse is Kilgore College.

What is really bad is how nobody will buy them, so they will take that as evidence "nobody cares" or "it's not worth investing any time and energy into this kind of stuff".

It really no different than the false logic behind not stocking white jerseys in the bookstore, etc.

This one is worse than the pink pony plate
