Maybe he wanted to ride Liberty into every home game, and that was the last straw.

"There are too many important donors pouring in too much money for Turner to let this athletics program go sour. He's a good enough fundraiser to realize that he shouldn't ever anger his donor base, most of whom are major donors to athletics. We'll be fine. I bet there is something weird going on here with Steve-O though. And something tells me we never hear what it was."
I think we probably will. There's a lot of media already sniffing around this story. If SMU can keep a complete lid on it, I'd be surprised. Someone will crack this. But I agree that Turner wouldn't have done something like this unless: (a) he had a VERY good reason; and (b) he had the boosters behind him.

Couldn't agree more. I couldn't stand the guy, but he has made the position far more appealing to the next round of candidates.

This is where I disagree. While the position is more attractive to the next round of candidates, I see this as a chance for a major upgrade.
It's just like when fans get restless that a coach isn't winning enough or a player isn't meeting a certain statistical goal. It's easy to call for a replacement, but a change is only good if the replacement represents an improvement. Orsini did a couple of good things, but there are better ADs out there.

Why would anyone be excited about job where a guy who did a great job cleaning up a gigantic clusterffff got fired. Its a great job and all but his firing raises some red flags.
Maybe Copeland and his red sweater are coming back.
I do agree that something shady might have happened.

Copeland passed away a couple years ago. I can't speak to the whereabouts of his sweater.
