My biggest concern is that SMU could retreat again to the days of post DP 1987-2007 and thus ruin the positive progress that has been made in athletics. The moving forward of our FB/BB athletic programs would be over, and again we could loose Hugh Amounts in Conference Money/TV Contracts again like when we got kicked out of the SWC/ Big 12 merger in the mid 1990's. SMU needs a strong athletic program, and alumni have invested the money through donations to get it done. Though donations would dry up if we try to run a D1 program again like we did in the Post DP days for 20 years that did not work.
