Honestly, I really don't think the Big12 would even consider us unless we won the BE immediately. Hell the Big12 might not even pickup FSU and Clemson until a couple of years. I think we very very low on the totem pole an invite to any BCS conference. We bring a large TV market but Dallas is saturated with UT, OU, TT, Baylor, TCU, OSU, and KU fans in Dallas. We wouldn't bring any new value and we really don't have a competitive football program. We have to hope for the plus 1 playoff format or combing the ACC and BE if Clemson, FSU, V Tech, North Carolina, or Louisville decide to leave.

Regardless of whether SMU gets added to the Big 12 I am glad that we are playing you guys the next 8 year- win or lose.
As for realignment prospects I think you are going to be in the Big East for the forseeable future but some small % shots could move SMU.
I think the options are as such in order of probability-
1- ACC loses FSU, Clemson, VT, NC State, and rebuilds. It would probably need to lose a couple more but SMU might sneak in. That league considers academics far more than the others and that helps a wee bit.
2- SEC & Big 12 push through league semifinals for leagues with 16 teams. Pac12 locked out of the central time zone takes SMU in an expansion to 16 to get revenue from these semifinals.
3- Big 12 falls apart after the 13 year grant of rights expires. BU & TCU push for SMU's inclusion and UH.
Just my opinion. No offense intended at all. I am glad you got into the Big East. Hopefully BYU will be #14 for you. I was hoping for it last year.

This is a fiendish plot to reassemble the SWC team-by-team.
Oh, and it's not real.

Lets get this SMU/Baylor Rivalry back to the Classic it used to be-means SMU will actually have to win one. Truly some of the most devasting losses and exhilirating victories in my lifetime have come against --Baylor? Believe it or not but it used to be hardest fought, drag out nasty showdown in the SWC in the 1970s and 1980s.

The 1980 Baylor - SMU game in Waco was one of the best games that I ever attended. The Ponies, behind Mike Ford drove the ball down to the Baylor 7 yard line at the end of the game but couldn't punch it in. It was a tough loss because the we jumped out to 14-0 lead and 21-7 leads.

Stood with him as he wept outside the locker room, before getting on the bus. That is the singular team I wish to beat in 2012.

Big 12 would never take SMU unless SMU won a BCS bowl game. Big12 takes Clemson, FSU, Louisville, Cinnci, GA Tech, and Miami. Let's be realistic, we haven't been ranked in 20 years and we don't bring any new TV markets. All of those other teams bring new markets and have had great past seasons. Just win and we can start talking Big12
