There is a better offensive line coach on campus as well. May not be a recruiter, but an truely experienced coach at that position. Just ask the kids.

We also have a much better receiver coach as well. Just ask the kids. Also, he is a much better recruiter that his predecessor.

Totally agree about the o-line coach. It's hard to be critical of Klemm because he was such an awesome recruiter. But as a coach I had questions. It seemed like our very experienced o-line consistently underperformed and was sloppy on his watch. Seeing the difference in o-line play at the bowl game was an eye-opener for me. Also, the fact that two starters got drafted into the NFL belies the perception of some last season that the the o-line wasn't very talented (despite being very experienced). I just don't think Klemm got the most out of them. I think our o-line will be good this season if they stay healthy.

I think he will stay. I feel he has more mental toughness that the players that left. He believes in himself and also believes he will play. No question that a second team qb has a statistical chance to play. He has three years left to play and the opportunity to a least start his senior year looks good--now. Now, if we recruit an outstanding QB this could change. Just my opinions

Based on JJ's track record of benching the starter early in the year (see Bo Levi Mitchell and Kyle Pardon)chances are Gilbert will be transferring next year and a new QB will step in. I hope the trend does not continue.

Re: Benching the QB's-- both didn't have the mental toughness to play and needed to be benched. Kyle looked terrible in the last 3-4 games of 2010 and was MIA against Army. Missing the team bus to A&M last year and throwing two interceptions, he didn't just lose June, but the team as well.
Bo? Well mental toughness wasn't the only thing "mental" missing.

I think he would stay. From my understanding Preston would still have 2 years of eligability left and would almost certainly be the defacto starter barring some big QB recruit comming in.

this year's incoming FR could become a player as well. let's hope these guys stick around so we do have aq capable back up

Gilbert won't be transferring anywhere else. He is planning on playing here this year and would have to sit out a year if he transferred again.

Garrett Gilbert is about 100000x more talented than Connor Preston. I'm not knocking Preston but if you haven't seen GG high school highlights on Youtube you're really missing out. I like Connor and I think he has a great chance of being our QB in the post Gilbert era, but he just doesn't have the physical tools that Gilbert has.

As for the kids that transferred, things typically happen for a reason. I personally watched BLM literally give one of the worst college football teams I have ever seen (09 Wazzu) a victory when it was virtually impossible for them to win. I saw him make terrible decision after terrible decision. He was probably thrown into the fire too soon and it was pretty obvious he was overwhelmed. He transferred and he performed well. I'm happy for him but he was not the answer at SMU.

Kyle was a weird situation. I think we all thought we had something special after the 09 Hawaii Bowl and even for most of 2010. But down the stretch of the season our offense was completely ineffective outside of Zach Line. We had a first half of 3 points against Tulane, scored 14 against UTEP, 20 against Houston, 7 against UCF and Army. Then, in the A&M game, Kyle threw two of the worst picks I have EVER seen (prior to the McDermott era).
