We all experienced some effects of the Penalty. My book is not a reopening of old wounds...this is my attempt to set the record straight and then kill it. There are surprises that have never been exposed.

Through it all...I still love SMU...and I think my book reflects that.

To those against the subject...I humbly disagree...I found lots of new information and things to say.

Thanks again for checking it out.

How could someone play on the 1987 SMU team when SMU did not play football in 1987?

We received the DP in 87 and didn't play in 88 and 89.

First, congratulations on writing a book. Having written three my self, it is not an easy task.

But, you aren't going to be able to "set the record straight" at this late date, the impressions are already set. Maybe if you had written something around the time of "A Payroll to Meet" you might have had an impact but, no way you can kill a narrative has been carefully constructed (often on shaky foundations) over a long period of time. Nevertheless, I'll read your book, but if there's nothing about George Washington Owen, Jr. in it, then the story is incomplete.

Ha...good point...I could have been more clear.

But it is a bit difficult...what is the 1987 Team called?

There were 57 scholarship and around 15 walk on players who were killed.

I choose to call us the 1987 Death Penalty Team.

there are no more TCU drug sample cups anymore They cause too many issues.

Just tired of this topic. Might as well write a book about leather helmets. It would be about as relevant to today.

Sadly it is just really ending. The impact on SMU was huge. I welcome other insight to it. Also, if you think it is old news, and SMU had moved on. Guess again. Even Jerry Hobbie told my wife that it still haunted the athletic programs today.

Go Ponies!!

Huh??? Red flags on this quote. Didn't play in 89? We went 2-9 in 1989. In your world, what was our record in 1987?
