It makes you so thankful we have such great QB depth.

Eff Klemm and UCLA...I hope Rice finds a way to beat them in this one.

UCLA is going to have trouble keeping games within 3 TDs in the PAC this year if this is all they've got.

Neither of these teams will be in bowls.

50's they were one of top programs in country, I'm told.
Yep had a halfback name Nagel watched him take Bama apart in the Cottonbowl.

Rice was decent to the point that they saw the need to construct a 70,000 seat stadium. Outstanding stadium - wa-a-a-ay ahead of its time. So much of it is tarped these days and the upper decks have been collecting dust for decades.

Dickie Moegel (though it rhymes with "Nagel"). Alabama's Tommy Lewis jumping off the bench to tackle Moegel halfway through what was clearly going to otherwise be a 95-yard touchdown run for Rice is one of the most famous plays in college football history. The refs decided to award the touchdown.

That stadium looked pathetically empty for a season opener.

When Arkansas defected from the SWC one of the Houston papers published a letter that the Arkansas AD attached to the check he sent to Rice as its share of the gate from a game played in Little Rock in the 50's. The AD apologized because the attendance at the Arkansas home games was pathetically low compared to the crowds Rice drew in Houston.

Really going there? We can NEVER make fun of anyone for attendance.

Just to take this thread totally off topic ...

one of the most significant political speeches of the last half of the 20th century were given in that stadium by JFK announcing the formation of NASA ...

Superbowl was held in that stadium instead of the Astrodome because it held more people....
