I’m semi-retired and work for the sub-contractor who provides event staff for Baylor, TCU, NTU, and the Dallas Convention Center. It was my privilege to work the Baylor/SMU game Monday and I was assigned Section S and T to manage. In the Fourth Quarter I moved over to Section U. I doubt if any of you remember me but I was the old guy with a mustache having problems with the game time heat like most everyone on the East Side.
The sections I worked progressively went from a mix of Baylor SMU fans in S to 100% SMU fans in U. As fans go you make UT, TAM, OU and OSU look like thugs. It was a pleasure being among you. You kept your spirit up as long as possible. Then found something to cheer about even when the outcome was obvious.
Even though you lost big the Odds are you will still win more games this year than Baylor. Don’t forget, the most improvement a team will make this year is between game one and game two. You should get your groove back against SFA.
I look forward to your return trip to Waco. If the new Baylor Stadium is completed in time SMU will be the first team to play in it. If they build it as planed you will be in the shade and not the 102 degree late Texas Summer Heat.
Finally guys don’t give up. My freshman year at BU was Grant Teaff’s first year as coach there. The year after the Bears won the Southwest Conference Title in 1974 they only won 3 games in 1975. Coach Jones has had three good years. If this year is an average year don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Nothing is as good as it seems and nothing is as bad as it looks. SMU will be fine.
