Just thinking about it, as wonderful as it is to play SWC guys making that 5 total for the year. We have a big east tv deal that we need to impress. I realize the eyes aren't on us (mainly Boise st.) but we need to beat one of 3 big boys and get to a bowl so we can say we we tv worthy ( a stretch but whatever) I'm more nervous about that tv deal (the fate of BE) than our grim schedule.... Maybe I'm going overboard but doesn't this worry some of y'all? Getting 11 mil a year sure would bring in stability...

Agreed. It sounds like this year's schedule was a leftover from PBs days and JJ didn't like it from comments made by both coaches. Most of the "big boys" schedule cupcakes the first couple of weeks. We should do the same IMHO.
Right I think at the Kickoff Luncheon that June even asked for a less stressful OOC schedule. Non BCS schools want hard OOC for money and to try and upset one of them. Most BCS schools play cupcakes to get kinks worked out before they hit conference play. Playing an easy OOC schedule also helps guarantee a bowl game since you have to have 7 wins to guarantee a bowl game. I am sure TCU will change some of their future OOC games if they have a sub par year. Let's stop thinking like non BCS teams and start thinking like BCS teams.

Keep the schedule as is. Tell recruits we are stepping up ooc and big east. If not now WHEN? I get tired of some fans afraid to try to improve. Hasn’t anyone on this board ever played any sport as an underdog and won? Feels great doesn't it?
How does it feel to beat up a weenie team?
One more thing, we need to generate $$$$$$$$$$

We may not have the talent to play that type of schedule. Even USC has a creampuff OOC. Name one BCS that plays 4 bcs schools in OOC.

Until we start beating the "big boys"...we are the cupcake. Why do you think they agreed to play us? Think they are sentimental about the old SWC and miss us?

Considering we have several games coming up, yes.

I don't mind seeing us play BCS out of conference games, except the first game. I mean Coach Jones has been talking about Gilbert being 22 of 25 in practice and how we were going to have an "unstoppable pass rush", maybe top 10 D. Then as usual we come out unprepared to play our first game. History shows us that it is going to be almost impossible to have our team ready to play a quality BCS team the way our guys are prepared in the fall to start the year. Gary Patterson at TCU has had 4 full team scrimmages this fall practice in the last month, and Coach Jones won't do it. Says his system was proven in the pros to work. Great, except college football doesn't have preseason games and if we are only going to prepare this way, we need a preseason game in effect to start the season.

So many posters who have never played football on this board. If we are scared of playing people then the sport should be dropped at SMU. would you really rather be playing Grambling like our TCU brethren this week? I would rather us go 6-6 and play good teams in nonconference than 8-3 and beat Grambling, SFA and New Mexico. The players and coaches and the knowledgeable fans relish the opportunity to play in a big game enviroment with a capacity crowd and media exposure. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Do future recruits want to play Grambling and SFA or the Big 12 and SEC? I don't think UT is gaining any respect and confidence for their team playing Wyoming and New Mexico . Playing these tough games early exposes the weaknesses in your team early so they can hopefully be corrected. What did we learn from Baylor? Stupid penalties, especially those by our defense that keep drives alive must be stopped. Against explosive teams it is better to give up the little hitch routes for 5 yard gains to the opponent than stop the hitches with close coverage but give up numerous plays deep. If you get beat deep interfere with a 15 yard penalty rather than a 50 yard td! Play calling must improve..what works against teams with lesser talented dbs doesn't work against talent. We "gotta scratch where it itches" as Fry used to say...if they are gonna cover us man we gotta make em pay!

Yes, I played. Yes, I would rather be 8-3. You get up for playing your conference and maybe one outside rival. But, then again, I'm just a pu--y.

Smart teams have tune up games and yes I played. June has expressed that and he played too. If they lose all their OOC games next year they might not make it to a bowl game which would not be good for recruiting, so their is a lot to lose. Foolish UNT type scheduling can demoralize and stunt the program. Plus you don't need to be beat up before you play conference games unless you are stupid. WV got much respect for whipping Marshall from all I saw on TV. The most import thing is getting enough wins to get to bowls and then win conference if possible.

I asked if anyone can find a BCS team that has 4 bcs team on it's OOC schedule. I guess no one can.

We did 3 a few years back with Wake, Wazzu, and UConn. Nobody is going to 4.

CFB conferences have changed too much for me. My FEELINGS (not necessarily logic) come into play.
I know many want to play the biggest rival in TCU (but right now my feelings wouldn't care if they were dropped). I feel similar in the old SWC teams that have enjoyed power conference status for all the years since 1996. So F Baylor, F Texas, F Texas A&M and F Texas Tech (and now F TCU!).

North Texas is a popular draw and so close. A 3 way type rivalry with SMU, TCU and UNT would be interesting for DFW (possibly play the games in Arlington like "the kids" are supposed to like to do).

Play UTSA a time or two since it's new (instead of playing, say Savannah State like Oklahoma State. Really just GIVE the money to Savannah State to help 'em out!).

I know many like to play Rice.
I'd like to keep the OOC games BUS LEAGUE close or only host the opponent. I'm not going to be travelling to the North Big East games at Cincy, UCONN or even Boise State.

Well SMU is going to the first then. Because they play Texas Tech, A&M, TCU, and Baylor in 2013. We'll see how that works out.
