Why the Backup QB always so great when he is a backup but not when he is a starter? Once you figure out that question you are on the road to enlightenment

In NO way should they pull GG for Preston.
If Garret was throwing into double and triple coverage, not making good reads, and throwing a lot of INTs (like Padron), then I'd agree... but he isn't.
We have a WHOLE OFFENSE problem, not a QB problem. Our line is bad, our receivers are bad, our QB can't connect with WRs... thank god we have Zach Line! If Garret is better than CP in practice, why wouldn't you play him in the game.
In regards to Preston, he has looked ok when he's had time in the game, but he also was not playing against 1st string defense when he went in. I'd rather we gave GG and the O more time in the game to TRY and come up with some kind of chemistry.

He's starting to look like an offensive joke rather than an offensive guruPonySnob wrote:Maybe JJ just isn't quite the QB "guru" he thinks he is????

Some players are great practice players and some aren't. Maybe Preston is better when it counts-who knows but open up the competition if the starter is struggling for 3 straight games. Especially when he hasn't played well in years.

I have no idea if GG is head and shouders above CP because we haven't seen the latter against the 1st team with a game on the line, but one play early in this game when it was still 9-9 really stood out in my mind today.
defense was playing their hearts out and gave us early field position advantage. Everyone is just waiting for our offense to do something other than another 3 and out for another weak punt to forfeit some of that hard fought field position...then, on a critical 3rd and long, Aggies leave the middle of the field wide open and GG scrambles for what looks like could be a 1st down we critically need (to give the D a much deserved rest), but when the Aggie defender starts to close, GG goes down in fetal postion a half yard short of the 1st down.
I understand the need to stay healthy, but if we have a QB with a big heart who is focused on "the line to make" in that sitiuation and gives that "little extra" to keep that drive alive, who knows how the rest of the team might respond?
I can't remember the last time I witnessed SMU (as a team) make that gutsy extra-effort that really tends to frustrate a heavily favored opponent. Our defense did for 15 minutes today, but without any help from the offense, this one was never in doubt.
