JasonB wrote:All about not wanting to slip back, but this 2012 class wasn't abysmal. I know you are saying that because it wasn't ranked as high at the end as it was initially, and the offer level wasn't as high as earlier classes, but the talent is there when you go out to practice.
Jason, I categorically disagree. No, I haven’t seen them practice, but I have respected friends who have and they tell me this class is middle to upper-tier C-USA, nothing special at all.
It was ranked #89 by Rivals, far below PBennett’s average recruiting class.
It had 22 commitments, around 1/3 of which received no other offers and another 1/3 which only received ‘SunBelt’ quality offers. That is two thirds of your class and totally unacceptable.
I remember Myers picked us over the Aggies at the end and Lincoln Richard having Arizona and Arkansas offers, but beyond that I don’t recall much more although I know a few others had low-tier BCS offers.
I just went to Rivals and looked at TTech, TCU and Ok State. Each one of these teams had multiple players from the 2012 class who by themselves had more quality offers than our entire class. We have Tech, A&M and TCU scheduled over the next few years when this class will be Juniors and Seniors. Who from this class will lead us to a respectable showing? Seaver I can see. Lincoln I can see. But you get to even the 5th player from this class and its already a reach, a ‘diamond’, who is performing way beyond expectations. That won’t cut it, not even in the nBE.
And I agree with those who say quality offers does not guarantee success. GG proved that on Saturday. But just as true is the statement that a team full of Sunbelt-quality players cannot consistently compete against teams full of players with higher quality offers, Saturday proved that as well.

RGT isn't going to do anything. He just wants to get the Bush library finished as well as the current fund raising campaign and then ride off into the sunset. People are going to see that our new AD is just s Turner "yes" man and we're stuck with JJ for the foreseeable future. We need to enjoy those 3 bowl games and the limited success in C-USA we've had as that's about as good as it's going to get.

good points, SA
I agree that UTSA is going to be a program to watch out for. Will not be surprised to see them run past UTEP and UNT to become the next strong public program in Texas. Fan support is the name of the game in today's world of college athletics, when TV rules the world...and UTSA is off to a good start gaining interest in the community.
As for JJ, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Still a lot of football to be played but if this team limps home and fails to secure another bowl bid, I would not be shocked to see him leave a lot of $$ on the table and just retire. We can all agree this program needs to be building some momentum and absent another upset of TCU or a CUSA title, it's just not happening.
