And that's not to say he needs to go anyway.
True but I'm assuming the rational mind of a person committing 250k+ a year to this guys salary I would want some redemption and effort. You really think he should stay??

I don't know whether he should stay. I don't see it making a huge difference. While I hated watching the Baylor, A&M and parts of the SFA game, I am conscious that, with my limited knowledge of football being taken into consideration, it is quite possible a small correction in a few areas and we could be very successful. J.J. McDermott, when healthy beat TCU (and Pitt) and I think that had the offense played on Saturday like it did that afternoon in Fort Worth, it is quite possible that would have been a close game.

I have never really known what I make of JJ, but I will see where we are at the end of the season before I decide whether I think he has made progress this year.

I certainly don't subscribe to the tenor of a large majority of posts on here that use JJ to polarize the fan base.

Well I have to disagree with you on the QB thing. I think we have an extreme problem with our WRs either not caring, scared, or don't know what Yao do, but I feel if they were like our last two years ago GG would have no problem. A QB can only be as good as his WR

By going 9-3, we lose either one game or no games in the C-USA part of the schedule, which means we either win the conference title or at least make it to the conference championship game .... and you actually want to get rid of the coach in that case?
Ridiculous.

Before I say anything, you say it's ridiculous, given if we lose to TCU, to get rid of JJ despite everything that's happen and he wins CUSA all through right? You know we are tad bit harder conference next year right? If you know both of those, what is your prediction of conference play next year especially given out all star recruiting this year and last?

My, how things have changed. We go from just wanting a coach to have a winning record to demanding a coach play for championships every year or get fired. And we have only been the worse major college football team in the nation for the last 25 years. In just 5 years we haven't shaken that stigmata despite going 2-2 post season and improved media access.

Look at the press we get. Ped State has the vilest and disgusting activities ever made public in college sports and all the articles talks about how SMU was worse and suffered the ultimate penalty. Our press has been lousy for decades and all of a sudden we have expectations that nobody will remember how we sucked?

We have gone from the worse, THE WORSE, football program in the country to one people are starting to respect and in a mere 5 years our expectation is to be a perpetual championship contender. It took longer to get to put a man on the moon yet we expect it to be done now despite less resources and talent than other programs.

Jones’ first recruiting class was almost nonexistent. Remember we hired him with about a month left to recruit. And he went out and did a stellar job under those circumstances (short time frame recruiting to the worse college team in the nation). So we really only have 3 recruiting classes and one of those is a freshman class. And we expect instant miracles from that.

The year isn’t over. This team still has time to prove itself. I’m not willing to demand anyone get fired after losing to two teams with more resources and better talent than us.

You really need to stop being so rational.

Honestly, you stated my position, though much more elegantly and thought out.

I certainly agree with the comment that it is all up to the money people who funded JJ coming to SMU. Ponyfans polls and comments won't have much impact. But when all is said and done JJ was hired by an AD who pledged "top thirty" achievement in each sport. Every fan will draw a conclusion about whether that has happened or is likely to happen in football. We have not won the present conference in several years of trying and I do not fancy our prospects in the NBE even though several of what I thought of as the stronger programs have bailed. I hope I am wrong but don't see that changing.

So you don't think the CoC will base their action s on this poll?

Weird.
