Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: JUNE JONES post-practice (9/26) comm
there are enough comments from June Jones concerning the big bad SMU non-conference schedule to be concerned at least that he''d dump TCU, Baylor or both. I am sure he doesn't want to be exposed again next year as being 30-40 points below BCS middle of the road programs.

You consider Top 25 middle of the road. Interesting.
Re: PonyFans.com VIDEO: JUNE JONES post-practice (9/26) comm
I think you are right regarding the OCS comments and coach Jones not wanting to face murders row. I would consider TT, TCU, Baylor and A&M to be upper tier BCS (Top 40) as a whole over the last 5-10yrs. I think he is like most coaches/programs today; they don’t want to face that kind of quality depth in the OCS. But, to play certainly one (TCU) and possibly two, IMO is not his issue. TCU is a rivalry game, and brings a lot of upside for SMU. Besides last year’s "W", we have been very competitive the last 3. Again, I think TCU would be more likely to push for a change in that game, not SMU/JJ.

I kind of agree with the previous poster. If we could stop playing teams that are obviously, way above and beyond us, then that will help our record.
Better record, means more notoriety/exposure/money/etc.
Continue to show that we can win for a number of years, then start walking up the food-chain.

It would be cancelled on TCU side, not ours.

Baylor and A&M are not top 25. Baylor almost lost to Sam Houston State for Christ's sake. We made them both look better than they really are.ponyboy wrote:You consider Top 25 middle of the road. Interesting.

According to the Sagarin rankings that Stallion posted. A&M is 11th, Baylor is 27th, TCU is 13th, and SMU is 88th. So you may not consider those school not top 25, but a national ranking service does.Lebanese4Life wrote:Baylor and A&M are not top 25. Baylor almost lost to Sam Houston State for Christ's sake. I didn't hear Patterson's comments, but I get the impression he was the one that brought up the possibility this series won't continue and JJJ was just acknowledging the reality of scheduling issues these days. If TCU is going to play a 9 game conference schedule with only Kansas and Iowa State as reasonably certain wins, they might want to schedule 3 patsies and maybe one non-conference "name" school. I also agree with the comment someone made of this being an opportunity for TCU to eliminate us from being one more school to have to compete with for DFW area talent...not that we are competing very well today.
Let's hope the series continues. Just won't be the same if UNT becomes our metro rivalry game

Yes it would INSANE to end the rival game with TCU.
Why travel farther and make your fans travel farther to
some game that would not be near the historical rivalry?
I guess if they get a road game like Michigan or somebody
it would be a bigger promo & better payday for TCU but other than
that I can't see TCU wanting out of this game. And it's a no-brainer
for SMU. SMU better not be the one bailing!

They've got a neutral site game against LSU next season and a home and home with Arkansas coming up so clearly they can draw good OOC opponents. With only 3 OOC slots they have to be much more careful about who they choose to play, using an OOC slot on a long term home and home series that gains them no prestige doesn't make much sense for them.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Yeah, well HIS job is to get us to 4-0 against teams other than SFA and Sam Houston St.SMU 86 wrote:Patterson made similar comments at his presser. I think conference rivalries mean more than non conference rivalries. JJ said on TXA 21 that the job of the AD is the get the team to 4-0 on non conference play.
HIS job is to sign some 4-stars to SMU.
He obviously never had plans to get SMU to the big-time. His plan was to get us to a couple of weak bowls, then get the hell out.

Ah, grasshopper. JJ gets away with many things.TWALV33 wrote:Theres no way he would get away with unscheduling TCU. I would be furious.
BTW, he wouldn't give a d*mn if you were furious.

Texas is still my #1 rival...then TCU...I don't have a #3. We lose TCU?...@#$@%TWALV33 wrote:Theres no way he would get away with unscheduling TCU. I would be furious.![]()
Rivalries are a large part of what makes college football great.
