totally agree
I commented in another thread that there is no way TCU is deserving of that #15 ranking and might really struggle in Big XII play. Patterson might recognize this...based on his pre-game comments about this being a big game and getting that 4th win (sounded concerned about where the other 2-3 wins might come from to earn a bowl bid)
as for SMU, I just hope we are still one of the better teams in CUSA. I believe our D is as good as any in CUSA, but the jury is still out on this offense

Good defense and/or the weather wasn't responsible for Gilbert's horrible horrible throws and decision making on every single one of those ints

I think one is below average and one is maybe a top 40 but not a top 20. However, Patterson always seems to have his players play fundamentally sound in all areas with outstanding special teams play so if they can keep the turnovers down and don't let the injuries hurt them they have a chance. The Big 12 strength is yet to be determined what with an OU team having some holes and OSU, Baylor and West Virginia looking for a defense and UT not having been tested except for a weaker but still dangerous OSU team. TCU should be much better by the end of the year with all of their young guys getting experience. Maybe they make a run to a Big 12 Title like Houston did in their first year when nobody expected it and all the other programs were down . Doubt anyone goes undefeated in Big 12 play. I think both TCU and SMU are way above average in their respective conferences by the end of the season.

I'll be shocked if TCU wins the Big-12 this year, or even comes close. If they do, that will say a lot more about the strength of the Big-12 than about TCU. Totally agree that in most years Patterson has the Frogs playing sound fundamental football with excellent special teams, but that is not the product he has this year. The Frogs offense is weak, one-dimensional (they can't run), and very, very error-prone. Their offense did absolutely nothing in the second half. I was also surprised by how poor their O-line was. The Ponies were in Pachall's face all night. By the end of the game he looked like he had taken a real beating. And as horribly as our offense played, if we hadn't f'd up our 1st and goal on the 1 opportunity that game would have gone to overtime.
Now. . .honesty time here. . .are the Frogs better than SMU? Yes, absolutely. Even with all their problems, they had enough to come in to our house and win. But I fully expect the Big-12 teams to expose the Frogs this year. I don't say that because they don't belong in the Big-12. I think they do. But the combination of injuries, expulsions, and playing a ton of freshman makes this the worst TCU team in several years by a wide margin. Next year I expect them to be MUCH better. But I don't see a title for them this year. The goal has to be bowl-eligibility.
That #15 ranking is based purely on reputation at this point.

If you're talking defense, then I'll give you that. There is no way to sugarcoat the offense right now. It stinks.
