Baylor only good on offense and they will get their true test against strong B12 teams, the writing is on the walls for us. Only hope is the team is worst than us

Completely disagree. Did you see how Fatterson gets after his players when they make a boneheaded mistake? He expects more. Sorry so many fans here just expect mediocrity. Hope the higher ups have higher expectations than many SMU fans who seem to be so beaten down for the last 20 years anything but being a cellar dweller is a positive. For $2mm for a coach and all the money the University spends to fund the football program, you better expect I want more, and it's a real shame you don't. These kids, while they do represent the school, have chosen to come here and are receiving scholarships for it...nothing different than those student/atheletes that play for power houses, so yes I do expect more. Fans from other schools do. Why shouldn't we.

Patterson gets on his kids when they mess up. So did Bennett. So do many coaches. It bears no relation to tolerance of mediocrity. Different styles of coaching. I'm not saying JJ is right, but that point is pure nonsense.

Ah yes those poor little athletes might get their feelings hurt if they're yelled at. What I love is the touting of these current players eclipsing records, or coming close to records, of past great Mustangs like Wayne Morris, Alvin Maxim, Gary Hammond, Chuck Hixson, Eric D., Craig James, etc., who played in the Big Boys Conference, against other Big Boys. Not like the past 20 years, or the present. Deal with it.

Not saying that people aren't going to get called out when they make mistakes, especially mental mistakes, but there is no point yelling at kids if they just aren't as good as the player in front of them. That is a recruiting issue. And what I really object at is people saying the players.coaches are lazy, when there is no evidence towards that.

Meyer was an all business kind of coach. He didn't get in his players' faces (his assistants were a different story). So apparently Meyer was a complete and utter failure for not chewing out his players in public for any perceived mistake. One didn’t see Forest Gregg in players’ faces and we know he was a complete and utter failure (that DP thing and the Pye model had nothing to do with it. Greeg just didn't motiveate his players well enough). And we all saw Bear Bryant get in players’ faces (oh, wait, that isn’t accurate). Royal whipped opponent’s arse with class and treated his players the same. Obviously a failure as a coach. Les Miles doesn’t get in his players’ faces and we all know how LSU sucks.

Thank goodness for coaches like Woody Hayes that had no problem slugging his players and opponents’ players. That’s the kind of fire we need! Beat up, humiliate and denigrate players is the only sure fire way to improve their performance.

JJ's coaching style isn't the issue. His results are the issue. Success isn't dependent on one style of coaching.

A lot of players do respect June's Coaches style...A lot of these kids want to be treated like adults, especially the ones with pro aspirations.

My problem is that June NEVER shows the fire we are looking for. We want some proof that he loves this school and this job. He has not proven that on the recruiting trail. He has not shown it on the sidelines. He certainly did not show it when he almost bailed for ASU.

Point should be that we want someone that loves this job, loves every small aspect of it, and is passionate about making this place better each and every year. The progress seems to have leveled off, time to improve!!!!!!!!

p-te - don't disagree with your assessment. I think the assts. should be the ones to be 'in your face' with the players. Last year I believe Klemm and Reinebold both were more aggressive than Palcic and JP. as a result there is nobody here this year to 'motivate' the players.

BTW- Woody was a great coach. Sadly he really lost in his last few years. He should have quit coaching about 5 yrs before he did.

I take no issue with the kids. They are giving their all out there. I think their aspirations and expectations are as high as ours. What is unfortunate for fans and for the kids is the coaching.

June Joke is the problem. He runs the same predictable plays, routes, etc....refuses to get out of the run and poop on short yardage situations. JJ looks lost and detached, but maybe that is his normal demanor.

I actually feel bad for Garrett Gilbert...I don't think he is as bad as folks are making him out to be. You try throwing the ball 40 times in the rain, you try making plays on 3rd down when no one is open.....can't be fun. GG did force some throws, but I think it was out of frustration due to dropped balls, no one getting open, etc.... TCU was beating us to the spot in some cases because they knew the routes.....all June Joke.

I don't expect most on this board to give up their vitriolic and pointless rants, but it is important to register that not all SMI fans feel the same way.

JJ can get on the kids, his coaches must demand more and we want and need them to play their best, but calling our WRs and others crappy is not the same. They suit up and play hard for SMU.

If skills are lacking, remember we recruited them to play, to be students and become future alums. Again, they are not pro's. As college fans, we need success, but trashing college students is not cool. Building character is one of the objectives of attending college and this is a teachable moment for everyone, especially the student-athletes.

There is a big difference in how we should express ourselves vs. a coach, who is inside and is teaching, coaching and leading. Developing young men (and women), who attend our university, is part of the mission. That is not true for the Dallas Cowboys.
