first of all - its not like June lost those arguments. We get in just about anyone - so don't know why he would pout. RJT should go pout.

also - i dont think anyone is saying it wasn't a good hire. It definitely was. I think just about everyone is saying it is time for someone else to take us up (after they scramble to recruit VERY QUICKLY) - and that change should not wait a year. If it is not voluntary, we should make it non-voluntary and do something quickly or it will be a very rude awakening - and quite frankly we will not be doing our part in the new Big east if we dont field a competitive team. The reason to have us is because we are in Dallas AND could be a sleeping giant - but crappy and small in Dallas does not help the BE much.

As disappointed as most are with this season, Sagarin still has us ranked #74 in their FB rankings. I went back over the past 4 years of Sagarin. To put some perspective on this:

If SMU were to defeat a team ranked #74, it would be JJ's 6th highest-quality win here, behind only TCU and Pitt in 2011, Tulsa in 2010, and ECU and Nevada in 2009. Let that one sink in for awhile.

The average Sagarin ranking for the 25 teams we have defeated is #108. Here are the teams ranked #108 each year during JJ's reign at SMU. A 5-7 Akron team, a 3-9 Wyoming team, and 3 Division AA teams, James Madison, Illinois State and South Dakota State.

Of JJ's 25 wins, 10 have came against teams that are either Division AA or had Sagarin rankings between #127 (Rice in 2010) and #182 (Memphis 2011).

The question is not if June is right for SMU. I think that is obvious. We need a change. The real questions is if not June Jones, who? And the reality is, who can we get who wants to coach at a school with no fan base, a questionable commitment to winning, 20 plus years of being terrible, being in a weak conference, has been a coaching graveyard for 20 plus years, and is entering the big east with sun belt level talent. To quote Rick Pitino.....Larry Bird is not walking through that door.

Show me three realistic better options than June? That is the scary thing, not June Jones, it's who replaces him. And this board is loaded with unrealistic options.....sonny dykes ain't walking through that door.....hell, even Gary Gibbs now that he is a DC ain't walking through that door! Love you Stallion!

June has made some headway as far as admissions is concerned. Having said that, the administration has given in as much as they are willing to give. The line has been drawn in the sand. Yes I think June has had enough when it comes to fighting the administration over entrance requirements for athletes.

Come on. Rusty Burns offense out performed June's. With Mason as DC they would have performed at least as good as June.

June is a decent competent coach who was allowed to play on equal footing when others were not. Now that everyone runs spread he is nothing special. We could easily do just as good.

Clearly, no one is willing to give JJ the slack of a first year to rebuild. In my mind, 2008 is a wash as June had to clean house that season. But even given 2008, I have an honest question. How do those numbers compare to other teams we would reasonably expect to be like at this point in Junes's tenure? It's easy to throw out statistics with no baselines against which to compare.

By the way, not that it's a huge difference, but I went back and checked and JJ's record is 5-20 against teams with winning records, not 4-20. I did find it interesting that, but for losing to us, ECU, UAB, Memphis, and Pitt would have had winning records in that year we played them.

2011-TCU (11-2)
2010-Tulsa (10-3)
2009-ECU (9-5), Nevada (8-5)

Guys, June is playing out his string.
The coaching fraternity is very small and no up and coming coach wants to join a staff with a life expectancy of 1-2 years.

So June really only can get the retreads who have been let go, have few options but know their craft and can at least "coachum up".

If the retreads are his own age, he has a past experience with, and don't require a lot of cajoling to get them on board then he is thrilled.

JJ knows this is his last gig, the admin knows it, the COC knows it.

Now the only question is how to exit gracefully and on terms both parties can live with.

JJ was the perfect hire in 2008, brought us back from the dead, now we need to get a new coach to take us forward. Agreed that is easier said than done but at this point we can all agree that JJ is a dead end.

Probably. Let's see how the rest of the season, and the recruiting class, plays out.

As bad as you say JJ is, and I am done with him too, to be fair, what was PB's, or MC, or any other coach's record against the same standard you have chosen?

The point is, we have gone 7-5, 7-7, 8-5 in the last 3 seasons, and 4-5 this season. We are generally able to beat bad teams (save Tulane), and occasionally beat good ones, and are competitive against teams in our class - hence the better than .500 record in last 4 seasons. We are now likely to go 6-6 this season, depending on Rice, with an outside chance of 5-7 or 7-5 (we always play TU well).

I know we can't just throw out season 1, but I think it's fair to overlook it for purposes of your exercise, lest you pile on 11 more losses (1-11).

Clearly, we have not had sustained significant improvement in the class rankings...probably caused by hiring a coach who never recruited.
