It was Phil's mantra since he wasn't any good at, you know, winning games here.

Actually we don't control our own destiny. SMU could win out but still lose a tiebreaker to Tulane if they won out too. Odds of both happening are pretty unlikely, but not correct to say we control our destiny until/unless Tulane loses again.

Why would that be depressing? To me that would signal that we were all wrong about Tulane. We would finish with out best record in ages (8-4, 7-1) and be bowl eligible, going to a decent bowl game. Additionally, our only CUSA loss would be to the best team in the conference. I would gladly have the team win out even if it meant Tulane winning out as well.

If Tulane wins out that would tell me that they are a solid team. At the very least a team that knows how to win and finds a way to win. At the moment, I insist that they are the worst team in FBS.

Yeah, and Grizzly Adams had a beard.

I agree Tulane won't win out, but controlling your own destiny means if you win out you win the conference, it does not mean if you win out and someone else loses a game you win the conference.

I think he made the same mistake that most of us did in assuming that Tulane was already out of the picture. But they are now, so it doesn't even matter!! The winner of the Houston/Tulsa game will be the one we have to look out for, but as the title of this thread suggests, win out and we're in.

I agree, since Tulane lost, the initial post is now accurate.
