Didn't we offer him out of High School?

I'm not sure. I do know that A&M, UT (obviously), Baylor, and TCU sent him offers though. And didn't Arkansas and Purdue have interest in him and we beat them out? There's more here than just Shead deciding out of nowhere that SMU was where he wanted to go.crazy horse wrote:Didn't we offer him out of High School?

Didn't Skip Bayless say something about recruits like "They just wake up and say 'I think I'll go to SMU'"Comet wrote:I'm not sure. Yes, apparently his high school coach helped him to get in contact with SMU so Shead did not just decide out of nowhere but it was not because this coaching staff initiated contact first. From what I have read he filled out a recruiting questionnaire for Bama. Whatever the case I am glad he is at SMU. Heck, maybe this staff can get a bunch of former 4 star recruits by just sitting by the phone. If so more power to them since we are going to need more of them to compete for conference championships in the BE.

Hope it all works out very well.
My 2010 PS magazine said that he was ranked the PS# 15 RB that year making him the 14th best player of 25 that UT signed that year. I remember him as a prospect.

Just for clarity, I titled the thread this way to preempt the haters. I thing this is a great thing for SMU and that JJ did well to get him here, regardless of who called who. I just know that there are many who will never give credit to JJ for anything.ponyboy wrote:Abu opened the door right up to the haters with the title of the thread. The potential for two 4 stars in thesame SMU backfield next year feels good. And both with some big time experience and maturity.

I think this 4 star might be better than the other 4 star if he gets the blocking schemes down.

Re: Of course it's not like JJ recruited him, but....
My recollection of NCAA rules concerning transferring players is that no coach can contact a transferring player without the player's current coach's release and then only if the player contacts the new coach first...at least that's what I remember the rule to be. There are probably a hundred ways around those rules, but I don't think you can recruit transferring players like you do high school players.Mustangsabu wrote:Just for clarity, I titled the thread this way to preempt the haters. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Of course it's not like JJ recruited him, but....
If they are a graduating JC player you can recruit them like a high school players. Like we did with Frazier, Crawford etc.

Obviously, but I was talking about transferring players like the subject of this thread.SMU 86 wrote:If they are a graduating JC player you can recruit them like a high school players. Like we did with Frazier, Crawford etc.

Oh, I thought you were talking about Snead because he is a JC player in his graduating year so coaches could call him.PK wrote:Obviously, but I was talking about transferring players like the subject of this thread.SMU 86 wrote:If they are a graduating JC player you can recruit them like a high school players. Re: Of course it's not like JJ recruited him, but....
You are correct. I didn't read the article and based my comment on the title of the article. If he is graduating from JC, he is not a transferring player...at least that is my take on it.Rebel10 wrote:Oh, I thought you were talking about Snead because he is a JC player in his graduating year so coaches could call him.
